iPad Air since iOS 8: Apps not updating and downloading no longer possible. Fix?

This problem only really started in the past couple days. I can no longer update apps, cannot download books from the store in the books app and cannot download newspapers in my newsstand. Also, my Adobe reader for iPad open but shows a blank page for 15 seconds before closing and returning to my iPad home screen.

Previous to this, the first few days of iOS 8 did not give me problems, though I had not yet tested all of the above items but apps updated easily for first few days (until 22 sept). Is there a fix?

(A) Try reset iPad

Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears

Note: Data will not be affected.

(B) Try reset all settings

Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings

Note: Data will not be affected but settings for Wi-Fi, FaceTime, Message, Home Sharing will be reset

Maybe hold off on Reset All Settings if you have any docs in iCloud Drive - http://appadvice.com/appnn/2014/09/bug-found-in-ios-8-causes-all-iwork-and-iclou d-drive-data-to-get-erased

Somehow we need to get someone to pay attention to these issues. Besides all the back and forth everyone get on a tweet, send emails into Apple etc. This is becoming non productive. I have now 22 Apps and tons of music that will not download on my iPhone 6+ the 6 seems to be fine so something is wrong.

Apple is watching this but so far no fixes to the issues. I appolcigize if my post seem to be a rant but wondering why it can't get some attention, maybe now?

on the iPad I deleted all the apps in the update queue

signed out of iCloud.( didn't delete data on iPad but i made sure all my data was backed up)

signed out of iTunes

reset iPad by holding home and sleep/wake buttons simultaneously for 10 seconds

turned on iPad

signed back into iCloud and iTunes, but turned off automatic updates.

Connected ipad to mac and opened iTunes on the mac.

Deleted all the apps that weren't updating on the iPad from my iTune's library

went to iTunes store and downloaded all the apps i just deleted from the iPad and the iTunes library

sync the ipad

Shortly after doing this an update for a different app was available and it downloaded after I selected the download button. I was also able to download another app I had previously deleted.

I do not know if downloading will continue to work. fingers crossed.

ps. two more updates just appeared and I was able to update them after selecting "update"

The automatic download in Settings>iTunes & App Store is still turned off.

Dear Apple, I hope you read and understand what I am writing:

I have three iPads - 1 iPad Mini with Retina and 2 iPad Airs. Everything was fine with 7.1.2. I updated to 8.0 and nothing but problems with the App Store on all three iPads. I downloaded 8.0.2 thinking the problem would be resolved - not.

Yes, I can get on the Internet. Yes, I can sign into the App Store. No, I CANNOT DOWNLOAD OR UPDATE any Apps. I have called Apple twice now, last week and this morning, for assistance. Last week I was told to reload the Mini as a new machine and then restore it. I did this and it worked for about an hour. Then I again could not update or download any Apps. I called this morning and spent an hour on the phone with the tech. We finally got all three iPads working. But this afternoon, they were all broken again. That's right, THEY ARE ALL BROKEN AGAIN!

I have tried everything I have read on this message board. I have done everything the techs on the phone told me to do. NOTHING WORKS! I am so frustrated right now I could scream. I would really like to return all of these iPads to the Apple Store, get a refund, and go by a non-Apple tablet.

My concern is I, and everyone else with this problem, are going to break the iPads with all of the turning on and turning off and holding buttons, etc. Apple, are you going to replace any iPads that break while we are trying to fix this issue?

So Apple, WHAT ARE YOU DOING ABOUT THIS? Do you plan on coming out with a fix for this issue? If not, how about putting out version 7.1.2 again to let us all go backwards to an OS THAT WORKED.

If you don't believe me, here is my service tag number through your phone techs - 669428478. If you look up this tag you will see how much time I have spent on the phone and all of the different things I have done.

You should have never released IOS 8.0 for the iPad, nor should you have released IOS 8.0.2 for the iPad. You should have waited until it was FULLY TESTED and READY TO GO! If I did something like this at work, and turned out this kind of work product, I WOULD BE FIRED!

I have this same problem. I do not own a iPad Air. My apps are not updating for iOS 8.0.2 on my iPhone 5S. However, my iPad 4 with iOS 8.0.2 works fine. I can update and download apps via my computer but this is inconvenient. A reset did not help. I'm not willing to do a factory reset as it is too time consuming and apparently hasn't been a long-term solution regardless.

Sep 30, 2014 6:24 PM in response to JDFMRS

I posted this under another thread, but am reposting here if it helps anyone...

After a failed complete factory reset, I ultimately solved this problem by disabling the new iCloud Drive. Not sure why, but as soon as I did this (under Settings / iCloud / iCloud Drive (set to off), my apps started downloading and my subscriptions started working.

I had the same problem on my iPhone 6 (with IOS 8.0), and solved it the same way.

Not sure why this worked, but it did.

Did not work for me. It's been a full week and I am still stuck with unusable apps and magazines I have paid for that I cannot download. Horrible situation. DISGRACEFUL Apple. I have now decided not to get an iPhone 6+ that I planned as my confidence in your products has been deeply shaken. Very disappointed.

Sep 30, 2014 6:57 PM in response to Mark Stockwell

Thanks Mark.

The two steps process works for me.

To recap:

(1)

i change my iTunes password to a stronger password. Apple will prompt if the password is not strong enough.

(2)

following to what you have suggested, for those apps that cannot be updated in App Store, I remove them in my iPad air. Then I reinstall them by looking them up in the Purchased section in the App Store. And previously I cannot update to 8.0.2. But after doing all this, I can do that now.

My Zino works too.

So far, it is ok now. i will monitor for a few days and see how it goes.

Thanks for for posting the solution.

I Had the same problem. Someone had suggested turning off iCloud. I did this and did not fix problem. I remembered that I had a magazine app "hang" while trying to download a new issue. I deleted the magazine app and did a reset. Went to the list of hanging updates. I was then able to updat them. I was also able to reload apps that I had deleted. For now working.

Sep 30, 2014 7:31 PM in response to jasonact

Just to reiterate. This problem was solved for me by deleting all of the apps that were stuck as ready to be updated (I wrote them all down first since there were 17 of them). Then I restarted the phone. Then I re-downloaded each of them, and since then my phone has worked. So, it seemed like one of them was gumming up the works, in my case anyway. Someone else on this thread mentioned the WSJ app, I had that one as well, but I'm not sure which was the offending app (or if this will work for everyone else).

Sep 30, 2014 9:46 PM in response to bdkcsv

.Same problem all discuss....can not update apps, and Zinio crashes, and Evernote crashes

I think this is the answer ...

1. I deleted the WSJ app

2. Rebooted the ipad Air

And all works....apps update/download, zinio works, evernote works....time will tell

But it appears that either the WSJ app is gumming it up for bad coding or Apple is hanging because of a bug/code changes (ultimately Apple's responsibility). And as I read above other deleted magazine apps....so maybe its tied to the Newstand feature of iOS

Those that try this should report back for all to read (on whether it works or not)......
