iPad Air since iOS 8: Apps not updating and downloading no longer possible. Fix?

This problem only really started in the past couple days. I can no longer update apps, cannot download books from the store in the books app and cannot download newspapers in my newsstand. Also, my Adobe reader for iPad open but shows a blank page for 15 seconds before closing and returning to my iPad home screen.

Previous to this, the first few days of iOS 8 did not give me problems, though I had not yet tested all of the above items but apps updated easily for first few days (until 22 sept). Is there a fix?

(A) Try reset iPad

Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears

Note: Data will not be affected.

(B) Try reset all settings

Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings

Note: Data will not be affected but settings for Wi-Fi, FaceTime, Message, Home Sharing will be reset

don't know if this fixes it for some people but it did for me.

I tried going into my apple ID on my pc through my web browser to see if there were any setting there which might be causing an issue. It said my apple ID password was not safe enough ie too short and simple and it demanded that I change it to 8 characters and combo of lower and upper case and numbers. I changed it and then reset network connections on my phone and now it works fine i.e. I can download apps :-)

NO idea if this fix is only temporary but it is working now so fingers crossed it will stay that way. I am willing to bet that many of you have apple ID passwords that are not secure enough so this might help you too...

This fella could be on to something - your symptoms sound like they could be the result of upgraded server-end authentication security, and when you updated your iPads the device was forced to log in again: without any user feedback that your existing password isn't secure enough on the device, you'd never know that the device couldn't log in to your Apple ID for downloading apps.

I would strongly encourage everybody to try this as a solution to your issues as soon as possible and post your findings.

I logged into the AppleID site and changed my password to one that was now acceptable. Still cannot download apps.

Until Apple fixes this, I've turned auto app updates off. Once a week I will use iTunes on my PC to download all updated apps and use iTunes to update the iPad. It is not an obvious process, but there is actually an "Update" associated with each app that needs updating..

Dave_OC,

This is apparently a two-step process and it's not clear from your email whether you followed through on both steps. If Basexperience is correct, it won't be enough to just change your password. Any apps that say "Update" in the App store, or have the download circle that isn't circling are hung. Those apps all have to be deleted from your iPad before you can say you've tried this.

I had something like 30, but it took until I deleted the very last one before things got back to normal.

Because all of those apps stay in your "purchased" queue, it's pretty easy to download them again.

Hey everyone, this is the originator of the thread here. I tweeted about the issue and would be great to get exposure to the tweet if you could re-tweet it. You can find it by searching my id @hathstauwk and it is the last tweet I posted. I tried a bunch of hashtags to get attention but re-tweeting would help.

I also emailed a few journalists to see if they can write about it since I have not seen mention of it anywhere in the press yet.

Maybe then Apple will start to take notice.

Have no apps in update Queue. Cannot download new free app that I never downloaded before. Looks like a difficult problem to debug, as some methods seem to fix, at least for a while, and some devices work OK, others do not,
