iPad Air since iOS 8: Apps not updating and downloading no longer possible. Fix?

This problem only really started in the past couple days. I can no longer update apps, cannot download books from the store in the books app and cannot download newspapers in my newsstand. Also, my Adobe reader for iPad open but shows a blank page for 15 seconds before closing and returning to my iPad home screen.

Previous to this, the first few days of iOS 8 did not give me problems, though I had not yet tested all of the above items but apps updated easily for first few days (until 22 sept). Is there a fix?

(A) Try reset iPad

Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears

Note: Data will not be affected.

(B) Try reset all settings

Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings

Note: Data will not be affected but settings for Wi-Fi, FaceTime, Message, Home Sharing will be reset

Bump! Having exact same issue as everyone else. Noticed a few days ago I couldn't update apps on my iPad Air running 8.0. Never updated to 8.01. Figured I would try 8.02 yesterday but couldn't do the wireless update or via iTunes (it actually hung my iTunes). Just now I was able to do an iTunes update to 8.02 but didn't fix anything. Was going to try a factory restore but that appears to be a waste of time if the problem comes back. Fortunately still getting emails and what not but pretty frustrating.

Also for some reason I couldn't stay logged in to reply to the end of this thread. Had to just reply to the original post.

I was having this same problem, except on my iPad mini. It was really annoying and had been going on for a couple days.

I just fixed my problem by going into Settings and turning off all features I could think of that might be trying to download updates of some sort. For me, this meant turning off the new iCloud Photo Library (Beta) feature, Photo Stream, iTunes Match, and Podcast-related feaures. I have a feeling the culprit is iCloud Photo Library (Beta), but I'm not completely sure. In any case, after turning those features off, updating still wouldn't work, so I simply turned my iPad off and on again. One app then began updating while others remained hanging. I turned my iPad off and on a second time, and now all apps appear to be downloading and updating. Hopefully this sticks. I have not tried turning on the features I turned off yet, other than iTunes Match.

Edit: I am pretty sure that iCloud Photo Library is causing the problem here. I have now turned all other features back on and i am able to update and download. Curiously, however, if I try to turn iCloud Photo Library back on, I get a message saying that the service is not yet ready though users are being added daily.

Ok, same problem as everyone else...I think I have a remedy that seems to be working for me. (I did download 8.0.2 last night via iTunes, but that did not help at all.)

If you have an app that is hanging up in the Update Apps page, go into your home page and delete the app(s). Then, go back into the App Store>Purchased>All. Find your app, download it back onto your iPad from the Cloud. It should download again with the updated version.

I also had attempted to download a couple of apps from the App Store over the past couple of days, but with no luck. Once I deleted all of the apps that were hung up, the new apps that I was attempting to download mysteriously began to download.

I'm not an expert at all, but after tinkering with this for 4 days, this is the only thing that I have found that actually works. i will leave it to the experts to figure out the root cause of the situation. Please let me know if you are successful as well.

Running an iPad Air with iOS 8.0 and today the ability to download applications and newsstand content (issues of the new york post as an example) just stopped. Tried the update to iOS 8.0.2 on my iPad using iTunes to resolve the issue but that didn't work nor did resetting my iPad wireless settings.

This is an utter disgrace that I cannot update any applications or download new content.

Only thing that is working is email is still updating and the browser still works but that is a small percentage of how I use my iPad Air. Taking an upgrade to iOS 8.0 should not have led to these issues and Apple needs to provide a solution ASAP

I had this problem as well on my iPad Air for days. I figured it had to be an app that got hung up updating so I deleted all the apps I had that we're updating. I rebooted after deleting them and it seems to be working now. I was able to download the apps I deleted and I can update magazine issues as well. Try deleting your updating apps. Man I hope this fixes it that was really annoying.

Just adding myself to the list here. Brand new iPhone 6, started hanging and unable to download or update apps after a few days. Plugged in via cable to iMac/iTunes and was able upgrade to 8.0.2 (and update the apps that were hung via side load) - couldn't upgrade to 8.0.2 OTA, btw, just hung - but app store still showing notification for 17 new updates (Even though those apps are updated) and no ability to download or update anything new. In other words, same problem as everyone here and persisting even after side loading 8.0.2 and any apps. I have not yet tried deleting and reloading all newly updated apps since there are 17 of them, but I suppose I will at some point here. Clearly a bug. Any solution Apple?

I had the same problems as described by a number of users in this forum - apps not downloading, newsstand not updating, sluggishness, etc. I restored the iPad completely to the original factory settings. Now it is working absolutely fine on ios 8.0.2. I bit of a pain to re-download my old apps, data, and to set it up the way I had it before the ios update, but at least it works now! No more problems at all.

My iPad 4th gen wifi had this issue post 8.0 installation. No downloads or updates of any apps. No downloads of previously purchased movies or music. Went through a number of less than drastic troubleshooting steps already covered in this thread. Sign in and out of iCloud, reboot the device. Reset all settings. Only after a second complete wipe and and restore from iCloud backup, does it appear to be working once again for now. I am running 8.0.2. Fortunately, I had backed up my apps to the cloud, which takes up space there, but was worth it on the restore. The default is to backup critical data, and not your apps. The assumption is that you can always pull down you apps from the store, which is what I did on the first wipe, and installed the apps in iTunes on the MacBook over the USB cabe. But, after a couple of hours, the problem started again.

Sadly, I can't say exactly what fixed it. But, none of the less drastic methods worked at all. I am pretty sure it was fixed due to a factory reset.
