I have nothing to do with Apple, but I do work with a software development team.
It's hard to know how long this will take, but I can make some educated guesses. There are these problems:
- We have no idea if the development teams even have this bug on their bug lists yet. There may be quite a lot of them on that list already.
- Even if our bug is on the list, it may not be a high enough priority yet. This might be because other bugs affect more people or are viewed as more severe.
- There is little chance anything will happen on the weekend. iOS 8.0.2 is not generally viewed as a disaster, so they probably let everybody go home.
- If the bug fix requires another software release, Apple will gather up a number of issues and make one release to cover them all. This gives them more time to test and should reduce (but not eliminate) the chances of a bad release.
My guess is that unless we come up with a general solution ourselves, Apple will not fix this for at least a week.
In the meantime, there seem to be two "solutions" that have worked for at least some of us. The first is to delete all of the apps waiting to be updated:
- Go to the App store app and make a list of all the apps waiting for an update. I did this by using my iPhone camera.
- Then delete all of the apps on this list. You do that by touching and pressing on any app until they all start wiggling. Then each app will have an "x" in the upper left corner. Touch the "x" to delete an app.
- Touch the home button at the bottom of the screen to get out of this mode.
- Then reboot.
- Go back to the App Store app and at the bottom, touch "Purchased". The apps you have already bought, but that can be downloaded, show the little cloud icon with the down arrow. Touch the icon to re-download the app.
This has worked for a number of people myself included (at least so far).
The more drastic solution is to reset to factory conditions. In this case you'll lose all apps, photos, songs, accounts, and customization of any kind. It may be that you can back all this up to iTunes and restore it all once your iPad is working again, but I haven't tried this, so don't know. It would be helpful if one of the people that has done this could provide step by step instructions.
