In iOS 7, the apps listed in the "Available Updates" screen of the App Store will be cleared the moment updates are synced over from iTunes. However, in iOS 8.0.2, the list is not cleared after being synced with the updates.
Even if this is something new in iOS 8, where the updates will be listed for a few days or weeks, the badge still shows the number of updates available when the apps have been updated.

Just out of curiosity. Did u install 8.1 via iTunes or over the air?

The problem still exists in iOS 8.1. I updated via iTunes.
It does make a difference if you update "over the air" or via iTunes. The problem only shows up when you update via iTunes.
I have not yet updated to iOS 8.1, will wait a few days to see if the new version runs well for the "early adapters".

It would be GREAT if every person who did view/read this thread would do the same.
What kind of troubleshooting have you tried? I have not had any issues with the red badge disappearing after updating apps in the App Store. And this is through all versions of iOS. I have iOS8.1 on my 5s right now, and actually just received notification of two updates, performed them and the badge is gone.
I had this problem on my iPhone 5 on 8.0.2 and 8.1. What fixed it for me was signing out of the iTunes & App Store, resetting the iPhone, then signing back into my Apple store ID. Give that a shot, the problem has not returned for me.

What does reset all settings do... sounds painful to re set up everything.

The trouble only happens when one uses iTunes to update.
I have always used iTunes to update. I have never used the OTA update since it has been available.

I did logout from "iTunes & App Store", then did a re-boot of the iPhone5, and than log back into "iTunes & App Store".
This did not change anything, except that the App Store app needs a few seconds to change the button at the right side of the list from "update" to "open".
