iPhone 6 Plus Crashing (a lot)

Hi All,

I was hoping for some very detailed advice on getting my iPhone 6 Plus to stop crashing. It's happening many times per day and almost makes using the device futile.

When it arrived, I backed up my old iPhone 5S to iTunes (encrypted) and then restored that backup onto the iPhone 6 Plus. During the restoration everything went smooth, but after it rebooted and began syncing the apps back over, I would hear the phone ping (charge sound) and syncing would pause for a moment. Turns out it was having a mini crash and the Apple logo would appear for a few seconds, then it would start syncing again. No problems or errors were produced on the iPhone or iTunes.

Once restoration was complete (iOS 8.0.2), all of my stuff was there and iTunes still reported 0 errors. But as I used the phone, I would notice some weird stuff:

1) Swiping between app pages quickly would cause the same mini crash and the Apple logo would appear a few seconds before the phone came back up.

2) After launching an app a few times, the "preview" iOS shows when zooming into the app would become the app icon itself (rather than a preview of the app). This would happen for all apps when entering and exiting.

3) Some stock apps (like Calendar) would be missing their icon altogether.

4) The dark area representing a folder would disappear and the tiny icons just looked as if they were floating.

5) Lots more crashing (when using Siri, when just in my pocket, etc).

If you're still reading this, it's obvious I have a problem in my backup that is causing springboard issues (or something). The obvious solution is to restore the phone to factory settings and not reapply the backup, but I have valuable text messages dating back to 2007 that I'd really like to retain. Keeping that in mind, here's what I've tried:

- Restoring from the same iTunes backup again

- Turning off "Documents and Data" in iCloud

- Reset all Settings

- Reset Home Screen Layout

- Restore from slightly older iCloud backup

- Reduce the number of apps being synced over

When I setup as a new phone after restoration, the problem does appear to go away (in the brief amount of time I spent trying to crash it). I really just need some troubleshooting advice I haven't tried that would (at a minimum) allow me to retain the text message conversations and related media (picture and video messages).

Any thoughts that could accomplish this or information on what this problem actually is? I'm willing to supply logs, etc, if that would be useful.

Thanks very much!!

Payton

Definitely well said, if you can't use the 128 memory however you want to what is the use of spending the money on the **** thing, Apple can keep their trash if that's what they're going to sell you for thousand dollars.

Yeah it's pretty sad that $1000 phone they put out you such cheap memory It causes issues, I have iPhone 6+128 GB actually this is the second brand-new one they gave me because they keep affording it trying to act like that's not the issue because they're too stupid to know how to check what memory is in each one before they give it to me when I have told them multiple times my back up runs perfectly fine on two 5s phones and a 6 64GB of course running MLC memory.

I told them it's because just like the write ups say I have 809 apps but I have not even put all my music on the phone so I'm still running 50 to 60 gigs free and it crashes and reboots itself sometimes in multitasking and more often than it does that in between multitasking I get a black screen for 1 to 2 seconds in between apps and upon start up the Apple logo screen will flicker and do weird things, One of the genius idiots asked me if I could just delete some of my apps, really that's the answer to fix the phone the customer needs to limit the amount to apps they put on their phone, why the **** get a 128 gig if you can't put on anything you want to it guess they need to start selling them saying you can only put a limited number of apps on them, it's really is a **** joke, I have over $20,000 of Apple merchandise easily and always get the new phone every year but I'm starting to reconsider my decisions in the future because this company is starting to go downhill, The reason water not recalling the phones is because they're dealing with their top-of-the-line thousand dollar phones in this case and most people don't have over two or 300 apps so they're not having as many issues, so basically they have messed up phones they just don't know it in their hands and Apple is just too **** greedy to recall the phones, they'd rather sell customer spends that only work half ***.

Stuff like this will be the downfall of their company, all the people that stay with them because as long as you don't jailbreak their stuff it normally just works without issue will be soon jumping ship if stuff like this keeps up, because I can guarantee they got me thinking now.

not that I wanted to know or should I be expected to but I even offered for them to open up my brand-new phone and just replace the memory to MLC memory which is something I shouldn't have to do with a brand-new **** phone, they should just make one with the right memory and give me a new phone, actually just don't sell customers that buy the top-of-the-line phone from you trash ones in the first place that would be a great option.

what burns me up the most is when you talk to AppleCare and Genius Bar they try to act like the issue isn't there and they're unaware of it, they say that Apple hasn't come out with any information about it, yeah that's because they don't want to recall the trash.

Apple has became nothing better than your run-of-the-mill company, android is becoming just as good as they are sad to say this since I have been an Apple fan for so long but there is no excuse for BS like this they have been looking for options to fix my phone for a month now this is not the way you should treat loyal customers, I would've been better off keeping my 5S and in the future just switching to android.

it's pretty sad that the company has no idea how to check which memory is in their **** phone and even after I offered to let them just replace the memory in my new phone by opening up my brand-new phone to replace it they have no idea how to do that either, yeah Genius Bar sure, I think that should change the name to idiot bar and Apple don't care instead of Apple care.

I hear you, definitely agree, never thought I'd see the day.

I basically told them either get me a 128 GB with MLC or take the trash back.

i'm going to give them another week or so and if I don't have a working phone I have the extended warranty so it will only cost me about $80 to take it into the store take it out of my case make an announcement to all the customers in the store letting them know what's going on And then slam it on the ground in front of everyone and tell them here's my $80 now give me a **** working phone.

maybe someone will put that on YouTube and it will make headlines and Apple will see they actually have a real issue here because it seems like everyone is having these issues is just deleting apps and trying to find a way around it to make the phone work which is unacceptable these are $800 to $1000 Dollar phones and it is not acceptable for all the ones basically thousand dollar phones with tax to not work correctly if there are too many apps installed, so you purchase a bunch of their **** apps and by their biggest phone to hold them in the trash doesn't work right, somebody there is an idiot to think this crap is going to fly.

keep trash up like this and you lose all your loyal customers and then you lose your number one spot if they've had for so many years, basically their meal ticket.

Okay, so I just got my iPhone 6 Plus 128G. As soon as I did a restore from my iPhone 5s 64G, my 6 Plus started rebooting several times an hour. I started reading some of the posts out there and a common denominator was the amount of apps on a phone. Okay I know I don't need (or use regularly) 768 apps, but I do use them. First let me say this really angers me that Apple would put out a 128G device (that I pay a VERY HIGH memory premium for) and not allow me to fill it with whatever I want. Keep in mind, I can get a 128G Micro SD card for as little as $12 (I could have bought a Samsung where I could put whatever size memory card in I wanted in it), but I chose to stay with Apple and pay the ridiculous memory cost only to have an unusable phone. My phone rebooted 3 times while trying to talk to someone (imagine the laughs Apple got when I told my friends it was a glitch with the Apple device).

Now that I can get off my soap box here is what I did and so far the phone is stable. I have uninstalled over 250 applications (that in itself was a crazy experience-It would basically uninstall a couple apps and reboot). It did this all night long while syncing from my computer. By morning I only had to run the sync one more time to get rid of the last few apps. I hope this helps people out there.

Apple I hope you are reading these posts and pull your head out and fix the problems If you cant build a phone that will run stable with high memory on board, give us the option of adding SD memory (which we should be able to do anyway).
