iCloud for Windows Version 4.0 Photostream broken

I have installed the newest version today and it still doesn't work.

Fresh install of Windows 8.1 too, also got it installed on a Windows 7 laptop and that too doe not update.

Shared albums download fine however, very strange how these download and the Photostream does not.

Thanks for the update. Exact same issue I have seen on a couple machines. Strange indeed. Version 3.1 does not have these issues so guess will stay there for now.

I dont know how things work, but has anyone noticed that the location shown in icloud on the PC is "C:\users\myname\PICTURES\iCloud Photos" and that when you look in windows explorer the folder "PICTURES" is actually called "MY PICTURES" could the mapping/name difference be an issue? Also, if you change the default location and sign out then sign back in it does NOT remember the change and goes back to the default location.

So I guess my question is could the problem simply be iCloud is not finding the proper folder to store in and therefore not copying the pictures?

The way windows works is that MY PICTURES is a library link to PICTURES. They both lead to the same area, but the link is just a faster way to go about it. As to it not changing, I didn't notice that myself, but it's been a while since I had it installed. Not using it until a fix is found. I'll reload it on my notebook (PC motherboard got RMA'd a few days ago and waiting on the repair) and see if I can duplicate it.

For what it's worth ... mine hasn't worked since 2013. I installed the update today for windows. Still didn't work. I tried all the easy fixes such as turning options for photo sharing on and off etc ... nothing. I finally signed out and signed back in. This deletes all the old pictures. But, sure enough it's now working.

Keep an eye out on it. Sometimes that works and sometimes it breaks again later on. I'd create a restore point every time you install/remove something for a while. Maybe with that info we could do Apple's job. I still haven't had success With a wiped computer, so it's nothing I did. Might be something I'm not doing.

Scratch my original message. This pushed all my photos in my photostream onto my computer. So, I thought it was fixed. But, it is still not automatically pushing any new photos I take. So, problem not fixed at all.

Turn off icloud, then right click the icloud icon in start menu, select properties and set compatibility mode to windows 7. restart icloud and photos should sync.

I'm still having problems but I tried what you mentioned in regards to compatibility mode and I received an error from Outlook 2013 but also the pictures never came back. It always shows me 5 pictures and that's it. This happens on multiple computers.

Try compatibility mode on icloud photos, too.

Dont forget to stop and the restart the icloud.

Yes, unfortunately I'm having the same issue as Nerdface. I get an error from Outlook when I go into compatibility mode.

So I am having the same problem after installing iCloud on a new Win 7 64 bit laptop. It is version 4.0. There seem to be a lot of potential solutions that work sometime and sometimes not. Is apple addressing this problem or not ? Does anyone have a definitive solution ? Sometimes I wish I had never gone down the Apple path. How is Dropbox and Evernote can work so well across mixed platforms.

Ok since my last reply my photostream stopped working again on the 25th December and hasn't updated since. No matter what I do now I can't get it to work anymore.

So infuriating than us PC users don't get the same level of service as Mac users. I bought my phone outright and am unable to use all its features properly, just not good enough.
