IOS 8.0.2 wifi issues

Hi, I have issues with my new iPhone 6 on IOS 8.0.2

Sometimes I lose wifi connectivity and disable / enable the wifi on Settings is not enough... only chance is to reboot the phone.

So, after no joy with the 8.1 upgrade, I decided to try the Apple chat support. It was a surreal experience. Here are interesting excerpts:

A couple of observations. (1) They know about this issue. (2) There isn't a fix for it.

I was surprised they refused to just send me a list of the app abbreviations so that I can look for a common app that my 5S and 5C use which could be causing this. Maybe Safari is the common link. I don't believe that they can't figure out exactly what apps are crashing. Those apps have identifiers which we can't see that will shows them exactly where they are in the app store 😝.

I'm amazed that they recommend closing apps when you're not using them. I don't use background refresh, but if I wanted to have to worry about individual closing apps when I switched away from them, I would have an Android phone. I thought the main idea of iOS was the magical suspend feature, so that we don't have to worry about maniacally clearing out all the closed apps.

I encourage more of you to at least go into the apple chat support to see if they give you the same answers.

Mysteriously your last link doesn't show from PC neither from mobile.

The result of your inquiry with these people at live chat is to say the least, frustrating and disappointing.

I sold my iphone 5s becasuse the update to 8.0.2 was OTA and I couldnt do anything about it.

I got a new iphone 6 and have kept it on 8.0 just to avoid these issues.

So far in almost a week I have no issues (apart from once and Im not sure if it was the phone or the network.)

Cant help to think though....

What do we do now?

I just paid my @@s off for a new iphone 6(carrier free) and I feel like I have it jailbroken (which is something I dont do) because I cant update.

This is the 3rd update of this OS and they still cant fix this....

What now?

Back to Android again?

My friend and I were at the local pub last night. She with her updated 4S and me with my new updated 6. Neither of us were able to connect to their WiFi. Just continued to spin. Friends with the Samsung Galaxy had no problem connecting. One would expect connectivity to improve over time. Leave it to the Apple amateurs to mess this up too. We had no problems before the 8.0 update series of disasters. This is truly unacceptable and my last iPhone.

Update on this item - have updated to 8.1 and seen no improvement. Have resorted to turning Cellular Data off whenever indoors to force the unit to use WiFi. While this does work it is super disappointing to have to do it at all. An interesting side effect is that now I can see just how severe the problem actually is by how often the phone tries to flip over to Cellular data even when perfectly good WiFi is available. I get the "Cellular Data is Turned off for XYZ App" message popping up randomly dozens of times a day now. At least I've stopped the mystery source of my exploding Mobile Data consumption that began immediately upon upgrading to ios 8.

I have been working with an Apple Tech to capture logs when the problems occur. They do read here, especially if the thread gets as big as this. They just don't reply. I don't think its a hardware problem with the phone itself per se. This is my second device and the problem is still prevalent. I think it's a software issue and compatibility problem with certain network hardware and the wifi stack used in 8.x.

Dear julia,

Apple doesn't reply mainly because they obviously don't give a d a m n and

also because they dont bother to read what we write here EVER!

This place was created so we can solve our own problems between us.

The only place where (in theory at least) they read what we have to say is

Apple Feedback.

that's why everyone should report their problems there.
