What do you suggest as an alternative to putting a phone in ones pocket?.
Its a basic assumption that a phones natural habitat, when not at ones ear, is in a pocket or a bag. Did Apple not take this into account at all? I would contend that any object that cannot survive the basic rigours of it's expressed purpose is not fit for that purpose.
To those who say 'it's glass - expect it to break' i would argue that all the previous iPhones had glass too, and they were not even remotely as fragile. My old 3s is still intact having lived in my pocket, sans case, for most of 3 years. My 4s, too, never saw a case, came through a crash off my vespa, yet lasted almost 3 years and its demise was only brought about by my infant daughters exuberance.
As regards iPhone cases, why buy something beautiful if all you are going to do is wrap it in ugliness. If it is Apples intention that the iPhone requires a case of some description, why put so much effort into creating such a beautiful product? Would they have us wrap diamonds in bin liners?
I am happy with practically all other elements of the design. However Apples choice of glass is deeply flawed.
Progress is only progress when things are better than that which preceded them in every way, and with the iPhone 6, I feel that Apple have failed.
Now to the matter of cost of repair...
One of you mentioned the figure of £79; another mentioned $109.
Apple quoted me €297.80!!!!
To translate that into real money, that is $373.72 / £233.61!!! Anyone have any idea why this is so?
I am based Cork in the Republic of Ireland - Despite the fact that Apples European Headquarters is less that 30 minutes from where I live, the nearest Apple Store is in Belfast in Northern Ireland - that's a 5 hour drive each way....
