Defective Iphone 6 screens?

Can anyone tell me if there is a defect in Iphone 6 screens?

I have had this phone all of 4 days and it is broken! It did not survive a 2 foot impact from a 32g spice bottle. I do not understand how there are videos showing the screen surviving hammers, waist and head high drops! I feel so deceived thinking this product was going to be better than the 4S that I upgraded from. (long story but the 4S survived 2 years without a scratch to the screen.. dropped numerous times) I checked the apple services and they want me to charge me 297 euros (we are in France) to mail-in a repair.

What do you suggest as an alternative to putting a phone in ones pocket?.

Its a basic assumption that a phones natural habitat, when not at ones ear, is in a pocket or a bag. Did Apple not take this into account at all? I would contend that any object that cannot survive the basic rigours of it's expressed purpose is not fit for that purpose.

To those who say 'it's glass - expect it to break' i would argue that all the previous iPhones had glass too, and they were not even remotely as fragile. My old 3s is still intact having lived in my pocket, sans case, for most of 3 years. My 4s, too, never saw a case, came through a crash off my vespa, yet lasted almost 3 years and its demise was only brought about by my infant daughters exuberance.

As regards iPhone cases, why buy something beautiful if all you are going to do is wrap it in ugliness. If it is Apples intention that the iPhone requires a case of some description, why put so much effort into creating such a beautiful product? Would they have us wrap diamonds in bin liners?

I am happy with practically all other elements of the design. However Apples choice of glass is deeply flawed.

Progress is only progress when things are better than that which preceded them in every way, and with the iPhone 6, I feel that Apple have failed.

Now to the matter of cost of repair...

One of you mentioned the figure of £79; another mentioned $109.

Apple quoted me €297.80!!!!

To translate that into real money, that is $373.72 / £233.61!!! Anyone have any idea why this is so?

I am based Cork in the Republic of Ireland - Despite the fact that Apples European Headquarters is less that 30 minutes from where I live, the nearest Apple Store is in Belfast in Northern Ireland - that's a 5 hour drive each way....

I've used belt clips for years. Best thing ever.

And every time there is a new phone released and people break it, we see this same argument: older iPhones were better, stronger, more durable. I understand that, if you break an expensive thing, especially if it's new, it's upsetting and frustrating. It doesn't mean it's defective, though.

Me too. My phone has NEVER EVER been kept in my pocket. Not only is it uncomfortable to sit with a big device in my pocket, but it doesn't seem like a smart or safe place to store a phone not in use. Since the dawn of iPhone's mine have always been in a belt clip holster. Maybe this is why I've NEVER had a screen crack, or gotten ANY scratches on any of my devices.

I guess the moral of this poorly designed phone theory is the next iPhone should be the size of a brick, coated with Line-X, and have 10 big rubber buttons. You can't sit on it, there's no glass on it, it can't bend, there's no software bugs in it, the huge battery will last for months, and it won't be a thing of beauty so it won't be anyone's precious. Not only that those of us who volunteer our time trying to help other owners could be better spent darning socks for our elderly neighbours.

I Read some intellectual guys writing Apple doesn't employs ghosts to knock your phone out of your pocket or hand. Well I think Apple definitely doesn't need to employ ghosts as some of these intellectual are sufficient to rather completely destroys Apple's already deteriorating image.

Like any tobacco company, Apple should mention a WARNING in bold on the packaging of each iPhone 6 that it should never be used without a protective cover and should always be chained to your hand or pant so that it never falls on the floor. And if it does than Apple is not responsible for your inconvenience as we built a product which is meant to fetch us more revenue through high cost of repairs.

it should also mention on their paclagging that the actual cost of purchasing and maintaiming an iPhone over 3 years is $649 + $109 x 36 months as you are most likely to drop it once every month. People who have little kids at home should multiply this cost by a factor of 2 at least.

People who are considering to buy iPhone 6, please dont waste your time and money on this inferior quality product. Apple is no more the same company which it used to be under Steve Jobs. Now it is no more than any Chinese company which is trying just to chase its competitors in a bid to catch up with the pace of changing markets And consumer choices.

Half the customers? Cite your sources. ProTip: You have none, so don't bother.

Apple's deteriorating image? Interesting, since Apple continues to sell more an more products, their stock continues to go up and up, and that doesn't happen if a company has a deteriorating image.

And, um, sweetie, Apple doesn't sell tobacco. And Apple does provide terms and conditions of use, which you're welcome to review at any time.

If you're dropping your iPhone once per month, you should see a doctor. You may have a muscular or neurological disease, since that is way outside the norm.

And it's exactly the same company as it was before Steve passed. You obviously don't know the full history of Apple if you're making comments like that.

When I woke up this morning, I most definitely did not. But evidently the sock gods have another plan and I'm evidently going to be adding to my list of skills. Who knew??!! LOL

I'd have to compare a cost analysis between A: The time and effort spent in repairing a sock and B: The cost of purchasing new socks and then having a free dust rag.
