iPhone restore error 53 - not listed anywhere, what is the problem? has anyone seen it before???

If you have tried everything then you have a hardware problem related to the Touch ID and you will have to get it serviced.

Does anybody know if this problem also occurs on an iPhone5S? The home button of my son his 5S is broken and he is already on iOS9. Should I take the risk of replacing the home button?

I SUSPECT that given you already have 9.0 installed you would be OK but I dont know that. My thought is, what do you have to lose? Replace the Home button and see. If its unuseable, put it back. Im betting that its an issue with updating only. Id love to hear your result. Apple is the devil

Check for hardware issues

Errors: 1, 3, 11, 12, 13, 14, 16, 20, 21, 23, 26, 27, 28, 29, 34, 35, 36, 37, 40, 53, 56, 1002, 1004, 1011, 1012, 1014, 1667, or 1669.

Your device or computer might have a hardware issue that stops the update or restore from completing.

1. Check that your security software and settings aren't blocking your device from communicating with the Apple update server.
2. Then try to restore your iOS device two more times while connected with a cable, computer, and network you know are good.
3. Make sure that your security software and settings are allowing communication between your device and update servers.
4. If you still see the error message when you update or restore, contact Apple support.

If you still see the error message, check for outdated or modified software.

Why don't you do an out-of-warranty replacement with Apple instead?

It is the **** ios 9,

1, i updated to ios 9 and when i restore my back up it stuck on apple logo (iPhone 5s).

2, When i changed my phone screen and update it i stuck on itunes error 53- (iPhone 6) ****** finger print sensor is only one in this world which is compatible with my phone. My iphone 6 is now like dead or use as brick.

There are too many errors apple generating day by day with its phones and also they are generating million dollars profit.

Due to errors i predict that apple will shut down soon.😠

I'm frustrated with error 53. I've been an Apple customer purchasing the iPhone 4, iPhone 5s, iPad 2, mini iPad, and now the iPhone 6. I have a perfectly functioning iPhone and now with this update I'm unable to use the phone, and still have to pay for the phone itself. I did get the front screen replaced, and I understand that it's now considered "tampered with", but at least let me use my iPhone on the old IOS system. Don't take the complete functionality away. I can't retrieve old photos or important documents I once had. I'm just out of luck. I have always been an avid iPhone user and a have argued many times with Samsung users why Apple products are the best products on the market. Now with this change I will definitely think twice about EVER purchasing an Apple product again. I had no idea there would be repercussions to getting my screen fixed. If I did I probably wouldn't have gone with a local repair shop, which I didn't think would be a big deal in the first place. I don't have a phone. Still paying for this phone. No photos. No documents. RIDICULOUS!

Ive had error 53 yesterday and I know for a fact that my home button is NOT the original one. but it has been working fine. I stupidly did a restore in itunes and got this error. tried another touch id, still the same. Then I found a random thread about effects of decharging the system. so I disconnected my battery while i fitted the touch id and it restored first time. Hope this helps other people.

Oh and the reason I know its not my original touch sensor is because My iphone 6 was black and after some damage I converted it to white and gold. Maybe there are different revisions of the touch sensor and you have to have the right revision for your board.

WHY YOU SHOULDN'T TRY TO FIX AN IPHONE BY YOURSELF

I bought this iPhone 6 8 months ago and it was my first Apple product bought after years of being loyal Android user, when I thought I should try something new. It was pretty good for a few months until I realized it might be one of the worst choice I have ever made.

iOS 9.1 was introduced 2 months later, and the first mistake I've made with the phone is trying to update it. My friend warned me previously saying that you shouldn't try to update iOS when it just came out because there will be a lot of bugs and stuff. I still did it because the patch notes says that you can have extra few hours of battery life if you updated it. And boom, my touch ID (unlocking phone with fingerprint on home button) stopped working. I try to look for solutions myself online and found that I'm not the only one who experienced this.

"Maybe they will fix in on the next patch, that's how they do it right?" I told myself and decided to wait longer. And there's the second mistake I've made, I brought my iPhone out of my house without a tampered glass on it. Until last month, they released iOS 9.2. Here comes the patch I've been waiting for, like finally, then I turn to disappointment when my phone tells me that "software update fail: an error occurred downloading iOS 9.2". What error are you talking about? I'm confused and I once again search again for solutions and I found this

It's from official Apple support site so it must be reliable right? So I follow the steps and try to update my phone with iTunes. And it turns out to be the biggest mistake I tried to work with my phone. "An unknown error occurred (53)." These are the last words I received and my phone was effectively dead. Every time I try to wake up my phone it just shows me a black screen with an iTunes logo on it.

So turns out that error code 53 is caused by hardware problem on the home button and I got unlucky with a few others around the globe, we received the batch of phones with faulty home buttons. And it amazed me that nobody actually shared anything about trying to restore it will completely kill your phone.

Some of them got a new replacement phone with their valid warranty. But mine was rejected, "Sorry sir, your Apple warranty is invalid as your screen is cracked." But to think about it, it was unfair to me as even if I didn't have my screen cracked, my phone would still be dead because the main problem lies in the hardware itself, it was a ticking bomb ever since it came out of factory. "I don't want a new phone, I don't even want iOS 9 or the touch ID to work anymore, I just don't want a dead phone."

Thus, I've spoken to 4 Apple support operators so far and I've still have no clue on what I should do with this phone now, I've been redirected here and there in a loop, just like how my phone stuck in a recovery loop.

TL;DR

1) Don't update your iPhone if possible.
2) If you have problems with your iPhone, don't look for solutions online, not even on the official Apple support website.
3) Always use tampered glass.
4) Remember, this is not Android.

If your Home button is faulty, take your phone to the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store and have the phone serviced. Or, if you're not near an Apple Store, send it in for service.

I stay in Malaysia. The nearest official service center would be Singapore which is oversea.

There is a official reseller with service center in Malaysia but they say my phone warranty is void because my screen is cracked although it is minimal, and they can only offer me a brand new phone replacement without warranty priced at 10% discounted of new phone. They say they don't have the authorization to fix touch ID parts.I rejected the replacement offer because it is unfair for me to pay for a brand new phone when the main problem lies in the factory hardware.

After all these troubles, I just try to express that I rather have not try to update my phone and leave the broken touch ID as it be, at least I can still use it. But now? It is just a dead phone.

You broke the display and voided the warranty. That is probably what damaged the touch ID sensor to begin with. You've been told what your option is. There are no other options open to you.

No. the touch ID stopped working months before I crack my screen, it happens right after I try to update iOS 9.1, read my articles I even showed links where I'm not the only one experience. I admin cracking the screen is my fault and I don't mind paying to repair the screen. But charging me a brand new phone price for a factory faulty hardware is unfair to me, and think about this, even if I didn't crack my screen the phone would still have stop working or if i didn't get a faulty phone, I could have still using the phone with slight screen cracked on the edge.

I think you guys got the wrong point or maybe my English is really bad. the point I'm sharing this is not that I want to defame Apple.

I found a lot of similar stories on touch ID not working before I try to restore my phone via iTunes. But I saw no one stating that you can end up killing your own phone before I try to do it myself until I found error code 53 occurred.

So I share this story to tell people don't try to restore your phone via iTunes or save trouble from updating your phone. I would have my phone still working if someone told me that restoring via iTunes can kill my phone. So yeah, just leave your phone there when you can still use it, or you will end up just like me, especially you know that they will void your warranty because of slight cracked screen.

If you had not broken your phone by dropping it and voiding your warranty you would have been able to fix it under your warranty. If you could have it repaired in Singapore you might be able to do so for 1/2 the price of a new phone. Apparently this program is not available in Malaysia.
