Before you tell me to do some "fix"....

YES I am connected to WiFi

YES my internet works perfectly on every other device in my house

YES I have rebooted my router

YES I have tried closing every single app

YES I have rebooted my iPad 2

YES I have turned off my iPad 2 and turned it back on a day later

YES I have upgraded to iOS 8.0.2

YES I have tried a factory restore

YES the problem started immediately after iOS 8 upgrade

*** is wrong with letting me downgrade to 7.1.2. Seriously. iOS 8 is a steaming pile of crap for iPad 2 users. And Apple support blames it on hardware issues of course. So, did thousands of iPad 2 users all just had the same hardware failure at the same time? Just look at the forums and see how many are having the same exact problem. And, if it is just a "select few", then why did all of these posts start AFTER iOS 8?

Even if you try to blame it on hardware, that still has nothing to do with going back to iOS 7.1.2. Every problem started with iOS 8. I had zero problems before iOS 8.

Bottom-line....LET ME GO BACK TO 7.1.2!

HHaving put up with complete silence from Apple I took the plunge today and rang them to vent my spleen and may have been provided with a solution

after sending a diagnostic report to apple they said there was issues with my firmware and needed to do a reset following a particular routine. This I have done and although I'm still manually downloading apps my iPad seems smoother, not as good as it was before ios8, but definatly a bit better.

This May work for you too. Anyway

1) attach your iPad to your Mac pc ( this should work for Microsoft PCs too)

2) disable any screen savers and or sleep modes

3) bring up itunes

4) Hold down the power button and home button simultaneously till you see the iTunes symbol on your iPad then release

5) follow prompts on your iTunes and set up as a restore

6) once complete set up as a new ipad

now I don't know if this will work if you restore from a back up, I didn't have anything important that I needed to save so started from fresh.

its certainly better and should do the trick till Apple pull their fingers out and release an unother update or allow us to go back to iOS 7

hope it's of some help to fellow sufferers

Thanks Tony, I appreciate you taking the time time to post your long description of what to do. I will try that when I get some time to spend on this. I had done the Over The Air (OTA) update and I know now that it is better to plug your iPad into iTunes on your desktop computer, but I had never gone that route previously. The OTA update was always convenient and fast and easy, but that is no loger the case. I will come back and reply when I try your suggestion.

My iPad 2 is in a horrible state.

if I can fix it, I will never update it again!

HI lesley,

i totally agree with you about the lack of a response from Apple and I think if you browse the other posts in here so do many other iPad users. Pretty poor customer service I reckon.

even Microsoft had the ba@#s to admit they had glitches in some of their software but let its customers that they were at least on the case to sort it.

hopefully if enough people complain to Apple direct we may get a response and/or another update, the othe option which would be VERY helpful is the option to go back to IOS 7

Dont let the wife totally give up yet though, miracles do happen........sometimes

Just trying your hold the buttons down and restore via iTunes. Think it must do the same as a normal restore via iTunes that I must have done several times over the last few days.

Oh, its all done, lets try it, no apps installed, just straight out of the box.

Nope, just the same, keyboard lag, double letters, Safari is rubbish, I'm using a UK property site to test it, search for Yarm, then try to hit Find Properties and you can't click the button (curser sits just before), Safari normally crashes.

I saw a post a few minutes ago about roll back but it doesn't work as iTunes states that the device is not eligible.

Aw well, we live in hope of a miracle. I wonder if you can get Windows 8 to run on an iPad?

HI again lesley

sorry to hear yours hasn't improved any, as I said earlier mines improved on what it was but........

i made the move from windows machines based on my experience with the iPad and friends comments bout the virtues of Apple in general. If this is anything to go by it might be a classic case of frying pan to fire

still there are rumours of another update but not when

as for a role back I don't think that's possible as Apple have stopped, very quickly too!, signing (supporting) iOS 7. Compare that to Microsoft who at least support their older systems for a considerable amount of time

such a pity Apple don't seem any different to othe major operating system providers

Tony, and everyone here, I took some time (2.5 hours) and hooked my ipad 2 up to my imac and updated itunes on the imac, then backed up my ipad to the imac, then took off some videos from the ipad, then synced the ipad, THEN downloaded and installed ios 8.1 from itunes on the imac TO the ipad. Once this was complete, I disconnected the ipad, and it was not working very well, so I hard reset it by holdong down the home and top power button until the apple logo appeared, once it eventually restarted this way (took a long while!) I am happy to say it seems to be working better.

safari seems quicker and not lagging.

my copy and paste seems to be working, by which I mean when you select copy and paste, it is not stuck on something I copied previously, as it had been doing.

apps that stream audio will work past the 10 mins, they had been cutting off after 10 mins for some reason.

Also, in iTunes: when I looked at the space available on the ipad there is more space now, and the "Other" (yellow bar) is much smaller than it was when I started.

i will therefore encourage everyone to use the connection to itunes via your desktop or laptop and try iOS 8.1.

thanks again Tony for your encourgaement and help.

I WILL NOT use OTA (over the air) updates to my iPad again!!!

good luck everyone!

I always do my ipdates tethered, so I know the problems I'm having are not related to that, and I did the hard reset several times lately. but I'm still having glitchy pasting, having to reload pages numerous times when browsing, etc. Sure wish Apple would address this issue. Even just admitting there is a problem and that they are working on a solution would satusfy me. Being ignored is so insulting to someone who has purchased three Ipads, one mini, several Ipods, etc....maybe not a REALLY big buyer, but I had been loyal....now starting to wonder. I buy newer units becuase they have enough more to offer to justify the money, but perhaps Apple can't innovate enough to encourage us to buy, so they are trying to force the issue? Make our older units less usable?

Sally, I think you have hit the nail on the head in your comments re lack of response.

This "holier than thou" stance taken by Apple with not even a hint of an acknowlegdment smacks of an arrogance not seen since the heady days of Microsoft dominance.

I mean fancy pulling iOS 7 so soon! jeez Microsoft supported XP for ages and through 3 further operating system changes!

II've recently moved to Macs from MS machines mainly due to the feedback from friends and family and partly becouse i was fed up with Windows but unless Apple sort this problem out soon I'm gona go back, i certainly won't buy another NEW iPad or recommend them to friends or family, no good having slick machines if their life span is only 2/3 updates
