Cannot update Apps, App opens instead

Tried updating some apps recently but have not been able to. When I tap the update button, it opens the app itself. In the case the app prompts me to update via a pop-up message, nothing happens after I tap update on the pop-up.

I Have an ipad 2 and I'm running iOS 7.0.4. thing to note, I did have restrictions enabled an had to enable them but still no luck.

ANy any help would be appreciated.

This is a "users helping other users" forum, for when someone has a problem and another user gives them a solution to it. Now, there is a solution that has worked for many people. However if you don't like getting your solutions from other users, you can always go to Apple Support, which is the OFFICIAL place to go (and not here) for Apple Support ...

@ star traveler

i I can not do a factory reset or back up and wipe my ipad because I am traveling and thus do not have access to my PC. wipeing my iPad and starting again is not a solution, at least not in my case.

i Would also like to know how this has happened in the first place as I have not updated my os in a long time and it was working perfectly till about a week ago. If there is a bug with my OS or software how has it occurred without my receiving any new files from Apple

That's unfortunate and I know how that goes. I was travelling in my car a couple of years ago and couldn't have my tire replaced for free, because there was none of the shops around (not in that state) for replacing my tire under the shop warranty. That was a bummer, to me, too. And then there was the time when I was out of town (again in another state) and couldn't replace my battery (which went bad) at a dealership in that area, because "that dealer" refused to honor my "home dealer's" warranty. Another bummer!

When travelling ... I know how those things are ... and I've experienced some of the same in other situations.

BUT ... there is one good thing you should know ... that an Apple Store in any country will be willing to help you ... unlike the experience I had with car dealerships! I would head for the nearest Apple Store in your travels!

OH ... and "one more thing" ... I just read an article that would be good advice for a lot of people, although it's not applicable to you now ... and that advice in the article was to never make any changes to your iPad (for anything) while travelling. They said that this is not wise, since you never have everything with you on travels, as you do at home. That's very good advice!

Ok, I fixed the iPhone too, a little tricky but works

Before signing out and in again, I deleted the biggest apps that takes a lot of time to download ,then

I was very fast to open the App Store and click the Update all button before it greyed out

After the updating, I went to Settings and changed the Date to October 2015

Opened the App Store again, closed

went back to today in Date & Time and when I opened the App store no more apps to update or open!

Annabel - After successfully updating, the app will still show an Update button, but will be listed below the heading "Updated October nn, 2014". Just ignore those.

Once again, for anyone who is still having the problem:

Work Around:

Search the App Store for the app to be updated. You can use the search box at the top right of the update screen.

Tap the details for the app. That should give you an update button. If it opens the app instead, close it and do the same thing again. If you are asked to verify your account, that means you paid for the app. Do the verify procedure until you are asked to pay for the app. Then cancel. Do the update routine again, and you will be notified that the update is free, since you have already paid. I found that once I verified one paid app, I did not have to do any of the others.

When the update has begun, you can go back to your update list and do the next, etc.

If search does not bring up your app in the store, google for it like this "Name-of-app app itunes store". Click the link that has that string in it and it will take you right to the correct app in the store.
