phone call from Yosemite does not work

Calling from Yosemite does not work at all. It attempts a call using iPhone but then it say "Call failed" / "Try Again" Anyone has a cure?

EDIT: Yes I am on WiFi. Both the phone and the computer are on the same WiFi. iPhone is running iOS8...

Thank You Nelson Eduardo Pereira!

Now my MacBook Air and iPhone 4s connected like never before!😎

Yes, outgoing phone calls in Yosemite is working as soon as time is set automatically on all devices!

So, here are the correct steps to activate this cool feature (thanks to Chatlanian):

1) Make sure that your iPhone and Mac are on the same subnet (could be on WiFi and ethernet as long as they are on the same subnet)

2) On the iPhone go to Settings / iCloud and make sure you are signed in with same Apple ID to iCloud as on your Mac

3) On your Mac go to Apple / System Preferences / iCloud and make sure you are signed in with the same Apple ID as on iPhone

4) On the iPhone go to Settings / FaceTime and enable "iPhone Cellular Calls". On that same screen make sure you are using same Apple ID as in step 2 and 3

5) Restart your iPhone

6) Set date and time automatically on all devicesâš  On you Mac with OS X 10.10 go to System Preferences -> Set date and time automatically; on your iOS device 8.1 go to Settings -> General -> Date and Time

P.S. forget about "Allow Handoff" as said Lanny "Your item #6 is unrelated to the issue. Hand Off and iPhone Cellular calling are two different a separate features." He is right.

and now, finally, all is working as Apple said http://www.apple.com/osx/continuity/:

Mac, now answering the call.

Now you can take iPhone calls right on your Mac. You can answer a call or dial a new one while your iPhone may be charging in another room or even buried in your backpack. Just point, click, and say hello.

Making calls.

Making a phone call from your Mac is just as easy as you’d expect.

That's easy, isn't it?🙂

THIS! Thank you thank you thank you 🙂

Finally got it working.

Late model iMac 2012. Upgraded to Yosemite over the top of mavericks. iPhone 6 with iOS 8.1.

COULD get incoming calls but no out going - "Call Failed"

Handoff worked perfectly, sms etc all fine.

Same subnet settting yadda yadda.

OH - BTW - iMac on ethernet - wifi off, iPhone on wifi .

All settings "correct"

Finally set the Date and time to Automatically . Voila! all calls in and out now work.

Thank heavens that is over!

SO - also shows you don't need to be on wifi - mixed wifi/ethernet working just fine for me. YMMV

RESOLVED..!! worked again with apple tech after engineering looked at my files/info pacs. They had be run the following commands in Terminal. After that - we trashed some really older programs not in use (2002 -5) . Not sure if that was necessary, but did it anyway. Restarted everything ... now it is working. Here are the scripts --- applecare said I could share them here...

[MacBook-Air:~] gorden% sudo mv /etc/sysctl.conf ~/Desktop/sysctl.conf.old

Password:

[MacBook-Air:~] gorden% sudo sysctl kern.ipc.maxsockbuf=8388608

[MacBook-Air:~] gorden% sudo sysctl net.inet.tcp.sendspace=131072

[MacBook-Air:~] gorden% sudo sysctl net.inet.tcp.recvspace=131072

i typed in the commands that showed after my name (gorden) and hit enter after each line. password is your system password.

hope this can help someone!! i am now able to make and recieve facebook calls on my macbook air.

Hello all,

I can't make or receive calls with my mid-2012 MacBook Pro using iPhone 6 running iOS 8.1. I've confirmed both devices are set up correctly, tried logging out of FaceTime on both devices and rebooting, logging out of iCloud on both devices and rebooting, checked the automatic time settings on both devices, toggled the firewall to see if that made a difference, double-checked that +1 is at the front of my phone number in Contacts, checked that the subnet mask is the same for both devices, and I am only on wifi on a single-band router.

Additional info: I am notified of incoming calls, and FaceTime on Mac can tell if I have the feature toggled off on the iPhone 6.

I'll keep an eye on this and other forums and will post if I have a breakthrough. I'd really like this feature to work.

I had the same problem, but I just solved it now. The problem was that my phonenumber was not listed under what I could be reached at under settings for Facetime (or iMessage). Incomming calls worked, but not outgoing. I tried a lot of things, even logging of icloud and facetime on both MB and iPhone.

The solution was when I disabled iMessage on my phone, and turned it on again. Then I got the message that my number was added on my mb, and now it works!

Clean install resolved my issue. I was coming from mavericks---yosemute beta---yosemite. As I mentioned before it looks like there could of been an app I had installed or something else. I did a fresh install and it works like a charm. I did have to restore my data and reinstall all my apps but it wasn't too much of a hassle. I have an early 2013 MacBook pro and an iPhone 6 plus. They really need to provide a fix to this issue and soon. I shouldn't have to do a fresh install every time I run into a problem like this.

I went through Tier 2 support for days last week, finally came to conclusion to a clean bootable Yosemite Drive off USB stick and I erarsed my HD with Time Machine backup...Before I recovered disk I got everything working on my Imac..All handofff and Continuity work. However after I used Time Machine and reinstalled files , it stopped working. This is the reason 100% of the failures everyone is having is downloaded programs that are corrupting Yosemite. Apple engineers discovered my issue was

Broadband Tuner 1.0

They had me run a script in terminal and now everything is working! Most of the solutions posted on here are not solutions at all but just going over the basic instructions for correct handoff. If you are still having failure after doing the correct sign in and checking off correct boxes call Apple ask for Tier 2 support. They will download your files and get you fixed

Otherwise just wipe your Hard Drive save important files (do not reinstall old programs get new copies)reinstall a clean bootable Yosemite and you will 100% be working
