iCloud Drive stuck Setting up...

I have upgraded my new iMac to OS X Yosemite. When asked by the setup whether I wanted to upgrade to iCloud drive, my power went out! When it came back up, the Mac's iCloud setup shows "iCloud Drive Setting up..." perpetually, with the progress wheel spinning. I've tried rebooting and clearing the ubiquitous file and still stuck. Any ideas?

Apple tech support saved the day.

This article they forwarded to me solved the whole problem (which my migration via time machine from another machine seemed to create)

This worked for me:

  1. Finder > Go > (hold down option key) > Library;
  2. Right-click on Mobile Documents > choose Compress "Mobile Documents";
  3. Move "Mobile Documents.zip" to my Desktop (now I have a backup of my iCloud docs);
  4. System Preferences > iCloud;
  5. Sign Out and accept alerts;
  6. Restart the Mac;
  7. System Preferences > iCloud;
  8. Sign back into iCloud;
  9. One-by-one, from the bottom up, enable each iCloud feature and wait for it to complete (if you're enabling Keychain you'll be prompted for additional security);
  10. Finally, enable iCloud Drive (mine took about two minutes);
  11. If any docs are missing (some 3rd-party docs were missing for me), you can get them from the backup in step 3.

Hope this helps.

Signing out of iCloud and signing back in worked for me. Yes, you will get a warning that your Contacts, Calendar, etc. data will be removed from the Mac, but it will be repopulated when signing back in. (That was my experience anyway.) A "setting up iCloud Drive" spinning wheel that had been stuck overnight completed setup in about 1-2 minutes after signing out and back in.

Cfaheybestpitch,

I tried to follow your workflow, but after signing out of icloud and then restarting the machine, the Macbook has apparently signed my back in to icloud automatically; I can't re-login because I'm already logged back in. So I can't do that sequential activation of each feature in icloud.

Any idea why the macbook would automatically log me back into icloud after I've logged out and restarted?

I also had this problem after upgrading to Yosemite and was able to resolve it using the following steps (without signing out of iCloud):

- I turned on iCloud drive on my iOS device using the same Apple ID as my Macbook

- I upgraded an app that can save to iCloud Drive, in my case Keynote

- I created a new file, saved it to iCloud Drive

When I next went to the iCloud Drive folder it was set up and running as expected.

I got this issue right after I paid to upgrade my storage options a few weeks ago.

I have the latest iOS9 on my phone and iPad, latest Yosemite on my Macbook Pro.

I would follow the "log out and back" instructions, except I have documents in my iCloud. I would backup my "mobile documents.zip" except it doesn't exist... I have a folder that isn't a folder, sort of...it doesn't have a triangle next to it, and double clicking takes me straight to a finder window displaying "iCloud Setting Up"...which is, of course, what I'm trying to fix.

I can see and get to my iCloud via my iOS devices, but I don't have sufficient space on my devices to download all the things that are there.

Any ideas?
