I see 2 things under this Subject - Handoff and BT connectivity. My Handoff is working since iOS 8.1 upgrade and Yosemite(10.10).
Yes I am aware I don't need BT connection for Handoff to work. But it is insane to know iPhone BT does not connect to any of my Apple devices(expect for iMac, MacPro which BT keyboard and Mouse). The same iPhone 5s connects with BlueAnt S4 True Handsfree Speakerphone, but none to any of my Macs. 😟
No matter what I do - my iPhone 5s will not connect to any of my Apple Computers(mid 2013 Air, late 2012 iMac, MacPro). I did a PRAM reset on the computers, turned ON and off the BT, did SMC reset and even have Bluetooth sharing ON. Yes I am on current Bluetooth version as well.
It's bizarre to say the least that connectivity on non-apple products work with iPhone.
Before upgrading to iOS 8.1 and Yosemite 10.10 - my iPhone had no issue with BT connectivity.
In addition to my iPhone 5s, I have tried to connect using iPhone 4s(still on iOS 7), iPhone 5(on iOS7) and iPhone6 (iOS8.1) - none will connect to MBAs, MBPs running on Yosemite, but all of them connect with all Macs running Mavericks or even Mountain Lion. Huh 👿
I cannot connect either, I have tried everything.
Macbook pro 2014 mid w/iphone 6 all brand new apple items purchased less than a month.
do you know how this might be remedied?
I'm experiencing a similar issue with BT.
I have the MBA with Yosemite and iPhone 4 with iOS 7.1.2 (latest firmware).
I am out and about and sometimes there is no wifi hotspots so handy to use the Personal Hotspot functionality on the iPhone.
Firstly, tried to connect with wifi, and the MBA does not connect. Tried the BT option, which is what I am writing this here, and following the instructions as outlined on the iPhone Personal Hotspot page:
To Connect using Bluetooth
1. Pair iPhone with your computer
2. On iPhone, tap Pair or enter the code displayed on your computer
3. Connect to iPhone from computer
The outcome is as follows:
Turned on BT on iPhone and tried to connect to MBA, it failed. Got the following error message:
"Connection Unsuccessful Macbook Air is not supported"
Tried to connect the other way, it failed. Got the same error message. The MBA initially shows Connected then goes to Not Connected.
It was working in the past and now it doesn't.
This has to be the longest “nothing” thread in the history of ASC.
Even if you manage to pair your iPhone to your Mac via bluetooth, there are no bluetooth services that are supported between the two devices.
Every service that is capable between the iPhone and a Mac over Bluetooth does not require pairing at all anymore.
Any file sharing is done via AirDrop or iCloud Drive
You now use the WiFi Hotspot feature in the Wi-Fi status menu.
To use AirDrop, Handoff, Continuity, Wi-Fi Hotspot you should not pair your iPhone to your Mac.
Again, there is nothing in the Bluetooth spec that can be used between your iPhone and your Mac, so it may Pair, but there is no reason to stay connected. There is nothing it can do being Paired with your Mac.
You can pair it all day long, but it will not enable the new features.
If AirDrop, Handoff, Continuity, or Wi-Fi Hotspot features do not work on your Mac and iPhone, something else is wrong.
Sadly I disabled my Bluetooth on my phone and my MacBook pro and my handoff stopped working. So I have to have my Bluetooth enabled on both devices for handoff to work.

Duh? How does that relate to what I posted? Having Bluetooth enabled does not require you to pair. If you must disable Bluetooth, then most of those features will not work. They use Bluetooth, but they don’t need to be paired.
YO guys!
is this from Apple or is it spam?

Hi Artin,
I just wanted to follow up and see if you were able to cal in and verify I’m from Apple, and if you were open to provide some additional data about the issue you posted about. If not, that is perfectly ok, I just wanted to clarify if we were good with going forward or not. I hope you have a great day!

That’s a good question, but to be honest, I don’t know the answer. Only those in one of our Apple Retail Stores or related to the departments that ship those products would know I believe.

Hi Artin,I’ve found the easiest way is to call AppleCare in your region (according to the web site. http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201232 it is (020) 100 529) and ask them to look up our case number. The case number is internationally useable. (The case number is 695272715). Thanks!

Just want to update,
Yosemite 10.10.1 ( new version ) with iPhone 6 plus iOS 8.1 - still not paired !
I tried the set-up suggested by stephan jnr.
Still no joy. Message says that device does not have the necessary services implying that my iphone 5 ver 8.1 is missing something.
I bit on Yosemite....****! Apple please fix this.
Incredible to have the latest MacBook Pro with latest Yosemite 10.10.1 and latest iPhone 6 Plus with iOS 8.1.1 and can't connect two APPLE devices to each other over Bluetooth that people have been able to connect separate vendors' products together with for a decade or more. Yet one more Apple defect I am experiencing. Unbelievable.

How disappointing.
Will Apple ever work again, my devices all have the latest OS's iphone/ipad/desktop/laptop and I still have wi-fi/bluetooth issues all connectivity pretty much does not work as it should.
The real "handoff" might need to be to a platform/brand that works.
Rob
Bluetooth and Airdrop work fine between devices, but not with Macbook Pro Yosemite. Tried resets etc. but pairing keeps failing.
Same thing for me. The worst part is that I just got this computer and my place of work is all PC based applications. My new MacBook and my iPhone have been nothing but embarrassing in that environment. I've been a Mac snob for years when it comes to using logic pro and other multi-media applications, but when it comes to business apps and cross-platform file conversions, and now the Bluetooth connection failure, I'm ready to throw the lot of my
mac collection in the friggin garbage. Talk about frustrating! I've got PC users around me that are out-performing me on my MacBook.!!!!!!!!..........the horror.....
