Yosemite, poor performance with Apple TV

I usually use my apple tv as second display over wifi with my MacBookAir6,2 13'' 8GB RAM but today i installed Yosemite from App Store and i can't use my apple tv as a second display because the video streaming is really slow and is really annoying work with that performance, i tried to use mirror display over airplay too but i had the same issue. it a problem with Yosemite ?? when will apple repair that ??. I also tried to use the P2P airplay without my wifi access point only with my mac and apple tv but its the same issue.

😠😢 I really miss when apple worked with almost any problems.

Well this isn't entirely unusual. The ATV 2 is basically 4 years old which in Apple's terms is ancient technology so that they aren't going to provide any more updates to take advantage of the latest and greatest. As a basic music streaming device, Netflix, renting movies etc. it'll be good for some time to come but for the Airplay mirroring, not so much. It bothers me because I stream U.S. Netflix from my iMac to my TV (as I live in Canada) and now I can't watch this stuff in quite the same way. It'll work for a bit at first and then go all choppy and lagging within half hour or so.

I hate to buy another ATV but for a $100 it's not that big an investment in hardware. It's just a pain in the keister and one of the drawbacks of Apple and how they put updates out there that make certain older devices obsolete for select features.

Well after some playing around, I have made some progress on solving this issue. My router runs at 5GHz and 2.4 Ghz. I switched from connecting at 5Ghz to 2.4Ghz and the lag improved dramatically. So I am putting this issue down to wireless interference (probably from my neighbours routers) for the moment. Just strange it should come out just as I upgraded to Yosemite.

One test that could also be done is connecting the Apple TV and MacBook to the router with network cables. If this resolves the issue, then the lag problem is very likely to be down to the wireless connectivity. Anyway, I now have a small lag but this was also there when I was using Mavericks. It is anyway small enough that I need to move my mouse very fast to see it. So I am now back to being able to mirror via AirPlay to watch videos without the lag being disturbing.

I upgraded to Yosemite and have ATV 3 and a mid-2012 bought 2Ghz MacBook Air.

Its funny because I bought a new ATV 3 today, upgraded the software to latest firmware and volia, no problems with AirPlay mirroring. I've resolved my issue with new hardware and I think going forward, short of a firmware upgrade for ATV 2 you will fund your solutions to be interI'm at best.

Apple needs to address this or a lot of ****** off people are going to complain. Customers shouldn't have to fiddle with settings in order to make features work that did before without that effort.

I have exactly the same problem. I'm from Brazil and where I live, there's an Apple TV. According to my tests:

- Apple TV (latest OS) + Marvericks -> AWFUL!

- Apple TV (latest OS) + Yosemite -> AWFUL!

Fortunatelly, I kinda live in two houses (my mother).

Both of them have an Apple TV and of course, different WIFI connections.

In both situations I cann't get mirroring to work. As mirror or as a second display.

It's terrible. I have an Macbook Air 2013.

Despite that, I was watching Netflix and sometimes the screen just got black and an error was shown:

"Error trying to reproduce this movie.. Try again later!" (or something like that)

First I thought it was something from the WIFI. However, I when I went to my mom's house, I have the same problem.

I think it's a problem on Apple TV. I get a differente error in both homes. In AirPlay and Netflix.

Really weird. Hope it helps!

Thanks!

Greetings to all!

The problem was solved. Decision strange, but I helped. Try it!

AppleTV update the firmware to the latest via USB-connection, via recovery mode. Not from air. Firmware previously downloaded from http://ipsw.me/

The first connection - small lags, the second - all excellent.

Sometimes long connected, sometimes immediately, but image not jerkily and sound not interrupt.

PS may have to help full reset apple tv, i don't try.
