Yosemite broke Apple TV mirroring
I upgraded my iMac to Yosemite yesterday. I found that Apple TV mirroring is broken. I can only hear voice and can't choose mirror.

This is a software bug in my iMac 2013 only. My 2013 Macbook air, iPad and iPad mini is fine in airplay mirroring.
Eye TV will work with Airplay on the MBP but the audio is still slightly out of sync. Some time ago I requested that Elgato adds Airplay to its EyeTV software to overcome lipsync problems - but that is another story
I log out my account in my 2013 iMac. I can mirror my desktop to Apple TV. I can hear sound. However, the TV screen is frozen. It is still broken.
Airplay mirroring is very useful feature in conference and lecture. I had AirParrot in Windows. But the video is sluggish.
I tried to find a product that can be used in multiple platforms: Linux, Windows and Mac. I remembered there is a crowd funding project. But I never heard of it any more.
There is a related discussion (but on Mavericks) here:
Tips include:
Ensuring that Apple TV is running the latest software
Removing old Airparrot drivers ( http://help.airsquirrels.com/support/solutions/articles/1000106969-i-need-to-rem ove )
Disabling IPV6 address (??)
Doing a Safe Boot
Creating a new user account and testing Airplay
Nothing seems to work for me.
I suspect there are some old drivers that have come across with Migration Assistant that are causing a problem. Has anyone experienced the problem with a fresh installation of Yosemite?
This extensions in my iMac:

I got a display link USB fake graphics adapter. But both my iMac and MBA has that drivers. Only iMac failed in mirroring.
I compared my iMac and MBP extensions in that folder and there was no difference (but not all the same as yours)
There are also (many more) extensions in system/library/extensions
With a quick check, these ones are on the iMac but not the MBP (.kext)
hp_fax-io
hp_inkjet3_io_enabler
seagate_storage_driver
ssuddrv
voiladevice
Nothing obvious here but I do know that Voila installs system files (for capturing screen video) and requires a restart. I don't have it installed on the MBP. It is very difficult to find out where the kext files came from and what they do.
Just tried connecting an external display (HDMI TV) to the iMac to make sure that was working - it works well in both mirror and extended display mode. The Airplay menu has an additional item [use Apple TV to] Mirror TV, but that still does not work - if I select it the menu reverts to Extend Desktop and the Apple TV displays a blank screen.
Still would like to hear from anyone who has the problem after a clean installation of Yosemite (no migration from an old Mac)
Turning off and then on or vice versa fixed my issue. Now MBP shows AirPlay devices.
Thanks.
Airplay was working perfectly till Apple released iOS 8 for ATV, and Yosemite for Mac.
and now when I mirror a movie either through third party app or iTunes from my iMac it's getting stuck or playing slowly.
I found that I can't downgrade my ATV... 😕, and I already downgrade my iMac to Mavericks.
OS X Yosemite is always having full of memory that may cause airplay or mirroring my iMac or any other iOS device, unless I restart all my devices and start again, yet this is not a solutions to always open activity monitor and free up the memory... 😮
Even I restart my iMac, the mirroring video is frozen.
As a diagnostic, try configuring System Prefs --> Sound --> Output to point to the ATV.
Airplay audio is working perfectly. It is the video that is broken with Yosemite.
I had a similar and very annoying experience, I've since just gone back to Mavricks.
I have:
ATV2
iPad on iOS 8.1
iPhone on iOS 8.1
MacBook Pro
I upgraded my Macbook to Yosemite and forgot I had even done so, it's the weekend and I was more into streaming content to the ATV from my phone and iPad.
Anyway, computer upgraded and was asleep, literally not even in the equation when I notice my iPad's Remote can't see my ATV? It's still able to stream to the ATV but is glitching a lot and is chunky and I can't control ATV with Remote from iPad. So, I switch to iPhone, it's Remote works but streaming won't work. Weird. Hmmmm, stranger, ATV won't recognize computer's music library either.
Reset ATV, twice, no luck, waste of time. Has to be ATV, no? Stumped I try everything... no luck. Switch from wifi to ethernet for the ATV's network connection, no luck.
Open computer to start looking this issue up online... computer is acting funky. Seems Yosemite takes waaaaaaay longer to load? Strange. Then it starts glitching too... so I use time machine to go back 1 day, computer crashes. Crashes! Mid restore!? ****. Now I am panicking. Open time machine again, all backups for the last 2 weeks are gone... gone!
I choose to restore to 2 weeks ago, desperate to save the computer, restore takes 2+ hours but seems to work. This happens to also restore me back to Mavricks in the process...
Phew, I am thinking.. computer seems to be working. Pick up the phone to try to solve the original ATV issue... it's solved. ATV streaming is perfect from all 3 devices, ATV sees all devices, clearly this was a Yosemite issue.
So basically, I am stuck with a brand new computer and I can't upgrade the OS because Apple won't support an ATV that's only 1 generation older than current?

Based on your description of problems it might be that you have a networking (wifi) problem that has been compounded by Yosemite. And/or possibly a hard disk (SSD?) problem with your Mac. My ios8 devices have been unaffected. It is only my iMac that no longer streams video to the Apple TV with Airplay. Otherwise Yosemite is going well on my iMac and MBP (fingers crossed)
Off topic ... based on my bad experiences with Windows PCs, I keep more than one Time Machine backup for OSX. Time Machine automatically swaps between backup drives - one on my network and another portable drive that I keep in my car.
