Bluetooth problem with OSX Yosemite: Magic Mouse and Keyboard

Hello everyone,

I've a problem on my MacBook Pro with Retina Display 13" (late 2013).

I've always used it plugged with an external monitor (I love double screen), magic mouse and bluetooth keyboard. On Mavericks everything was perfect with this setup.

Yesterday I installed OSX Yosemite and I've found a boring problem: my Magic Mouse and my Bluetooth Keyboard have a 0.5 second of latency, lag. This happen when the Macbook is not plugged with battery charger. When he is on charge, the problem don't exist.

I noticed this bug also on the public beta of this summer and submit the feedback.

I hoped that they fixed this before release but the bug is still here.

How can i solve this boring problem?

I also reported this issue again and again during each beta release.

This makes the MacBook basically unusable in battery power for doing any kind of design and coding work.

I don't have any bluetooth addons or third party utilities. I also tried clearing PRAMs, and reinstalling Yosemite, to no avail.

Here are some threads about the issue, which, I'm noticing, is common.

Note that while the issue is kind of tolerable using the mouse, it's tragic with the keyboard.

Does this prevent you from using OS X Yosemite?

The issue makes it very difficult for me to use OS X Yosemite

For the report, here are the issues I submitted about this using the feedback assistant:

Yes I had that same problem and was is very frustrating indeed. My solution was to use an download app named "Disk Doctor". Ran Disk Doctor and clean out old files and once done it has work much, much better. Not perfect but for 3+ hours it has not disconnected on me. And no lag issues. It does costs $2.99. Well worth it in my opinion.

Hopes that helps...

Hi, I have the same problem. Ever since I have upgraded OS X Mavericks to Yosemite my Magic Mouse and Keyboard are not working properly. Even worst is that Apple has made it almost impossible for me to downgrade to OS X Mavericks since all Mac files that I have opened in new Apple Software versions are upgraded in such a way that they do not open in older versions, i.e. on OS X Mavericks, anymore. So both of my options come with a frustration: 1) I downgrade but cannot open some of my files; or 2) I keep OS X Yosemite but my Magic Mouse and Keyboard does not function. I have never been so frustrated about Apple. How on earth is this possible? I am an Industrial Designer myself and have to admit here that I am seriously concerned about Apple... I hope that something will be done about this. You cannot paralyze (the controls of the computer are simply not working) your customer by these type of mistakes!

In reply, I am not using 2.4GHz, I have neighbors that are, but I have a 450Mbit connection to my 5th gen Airport Extreme that is down one floor and maybe 10 feet, using the 5GHz network, on channel 161 at the top of the spectrum I could get it

So far, fsck /fy in single user mode, bluetooth on/off from terminal, zap PRAM, no luck, still delays, occasional mouse freezing, its better but I'm expecting zero delay like with 10.9

I had the same problems and discovered the following:

1) After not using the magic mouse for a few seconds it needs a short moment (few ms) to reconnect. But only in battery mode. Maybe some new battery life saving trickery? Not a real solution, but at least no pain while using power adapter.

2) Disconnecting issues when connected to 2.4 GHz WIFI. Switched to 5 GHz WIFI and no disconnecting issues so far.

So my solution until Apple will fix this problem is using a WIFI on 5 GHz and power supply pluged in.

Turning off wifi made my Bluetooth device show up again immediately. I had removed it before so it was waiting to be paired again, but it seems likely simply turning off your wifi will make devices connect normally again.

I think you're right about the wireless bands interfering with Bluetooth, I seem to recall that's been a problem in earlier versions of OS X as well.
