New iTunes 12, not recognizing device?

I just updated to the new iTunes 12 but whenever I plug in my iPod touch 5 gen to my computer, it doesn't seem to pop up on iTunes. I'm assuming it's because it's not being recognized? When I still had the older version, my iPod did show up on iTunes but I can't seem to get it to show up on the new one. I know that on the new iTunes, the device should show up on the left side of the screen instead of the right side, but it doesn't show up. I've tried restarting the computer and my iPod but it doesn't help. I'd really like to get this thing working as soon as possible, thanks!

You saved my life. I've spent 2 days searching for a solution to that problem. Apple itself is lost...

I'll have a long trip for about 8 hours in 2 days, and I was worried not to be able to use my iPad during this trip.
What would I do during this time without music, videos, lectures, and stuff?

I have experienced that the iPad will not be recognised in iTunes 12.01 - i'm using iPad 2 with iOS8 and a macbook with osx 10.7.5


I can't sync at all and have done the downgrading to previous iTunes and still no joy, un installed re installed, different cables, reboots. IM GOING CRAZY!!!! I REALLY NEED IT TO WORK AGAIN HELP !

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions, however, none of them worked for me! iPhone 5s running 8.1 updated to iTunes 12.0.1.26 and, where previously there were no issues, iTunes couldn't detect my iPhone.


This did work though;

Reason: iPhone has set the the restrictions for applications

Solution: Settings>General>Restrictions>Disable Restrictions

One thing to note, the iPhone icon is now on the left hand side of the iTunes screen 🙂
