Yosemite + Mindstorms EV3 = Bluetooth fail?

Prior to my upgrade to Yosemite, I had the Lego LabVIEW for Mindstorms EV3 connecting correctly via Bluetooth to the EV3 brick. After upgrading to Yosemite the bluetooth scan returns much too quickly to have actually scanned, and of course the EV3 brick isn't shown as a target.

Do we know if the APIs for bluetooth change in some radical way to break previously working software, or does this indicate some kind of malconfiguration on the laptop?

Only slightly related is the fact that to make WiFi work I had to turn off bluetooth per a suggestion on this thread (at least that works).

Thanks!

Basically the same problem here. Bluetooth control panel shows the EV3. Clicking "pair" goes through the process, but disconnects after a few seconds. This is with four EV3 units using different firmware versions including the latest. Up until I upgraded to Yosemite there was no problem, and bluetooth connections were very stable.

This is with a Macbook Air and a Mac Mini. EV3 bluetooth connections on Windows are still working fine.

Obviously something fundamental has gone wrong with Bluetooth in Yosemite.

Hello

I have just got off the phone to Apple Support and they have said this type of issues has affected previous operating systems not just Yosemite. However, there is a simple fix which we went through which involves resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) and the Parameter Random-Access Memory (PRAM). All seems to be working fine since I did the resets (Maybe even faster!).

To do this go to the following apple support sites -

I have a MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Early 2013), Processor 2.7 GHz Intel Core i7.

I hope that helps.

Just pilling on. We have three identical iMacs, a MacBook Air, and a MacBook Pro, all connected to EV3 via BlueTooth without a problem. When we upgraded the MacBook Pro to Yosemite and tested EV3 software, the only thing that didn't work was BlueTooth connection. Needless to say, we didn't proceed to upgrade the other computers and don't plan to until we get to the bottom of this.

OK. The 1.1.1 update does still mean that you cannot pair the EV3 bricks using the System Preferences Bluetooth panel. You need to follow the procedure here:

http://www.lego.com/en-us/mindstorms/support/bluetoothsupport?domainredir=www.mi ndstorms.com

I know people have seen this document before, but the technique does work.

You can only pair the EV3 from within the Mindstorms program. Do not attempt to pair directly with OS X, so don't use the second mechanism in the above document. It won't work.

You will also find that the connection will only be stable while Mindstorms is running. Once you close Mindstorms, the bluetooth connection will be lost.

This has worked for me. The connection was stable for 4 hours before I got bored watching it.
