After I installed Yosemite the mac freeze after sleep.

Running El Capitan 10.11.6 - I Frequently find that after waking my MBP (Mid 2015) that the mouse moves but will not click.

The only option is to force a restart. This happens at least once a week. The MBP has nothing attached to it.

The only apps running are Mail & Safari.

It is set to sleep when the lid is closed.

This never happens during the daytime when sleep periods are short, but always when waking in the morning after an overnight sleep.

I have exactly the same problem and I also have a Mac mini.

Same here on my mini. Freezes the screensaver screen. Mouse moves, but no login window. HELP!!!

If you are seeing hard freezes (nothing responding but mouse cursor) waking from sleep after a recent install of Yosemite on your Macbook Air, you may find the troubleshooting steps outlined in the following article helpful:

OS X: When your computer spontaneously restarts or displays "Your computer restarted because of a problem."

You may also want to try disabling any screen savers and playing around with the Sleep settings (for example, manually sleeping the machine from the Apple menu vs. allowing it to go to sleep due to inactivity) to see if you see the same freezing behavior.

That is the practical work-around that I am using, Brenden: No screen-saver, computer set to never sleep. I did set the display to sleep, which seems to not freeze. Hopefully, Apple will have a fix for us mac mini users soon...

On another thread, Is anyone else having a problem with a complete system freeze after Mac wakes from sleep mode? Post OS X Yosemite install., a temporary but effective solution was posted: If you have speakers or headphones plugged in the headphone jack, unplug them. My mac mini now behaves fine. Downside: having to plug in and unplug speakers if you want to listen to music.

I had the same problem here after installing Yosemite om my Macbook Air mid 2013. For me a PRAM reset solved it 🙂.

1. Choose Apple menu > Shut Down.
2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Option, Command (⌘), P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
3. Turn on your Mac.
4. Immediately press and hold the Option-Command-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears. Continue holding the keys down until your Mac restarts, and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
5. Release the keys.

After resetting your computer’s PRAM, you may need to update your speaker volume, display resolution, and startup disk preferences. For more information about PRAM, see the Apple Support article About NVRAM and PRAM.

Every single time my computer goes to sleep, when I wake it up, the mouse moves, but everything else is frozen. This has started only since I upgraded to Yosemite. Is Apple going to come out with an Update to fix this?! This makes using my Apple computer absolutely a HORRIBLE experience. I hate Apple right now. It's such a waste of time to shut it down and reboot EVERY time I walk away from my computer.

FIX THE PROBLEM APPLE!!!

I had this exact same problem but some of the suggestions on this forum were to unplug the audio jack (for headphones or speakers) before putting the machine to sleep. This worked for me. It's obviously not ideal, but sooner or later there'll be a proper fix for it.

Yosemite 10.10.1 update seems to have solved the problem. I have it installed and since then, I have no problem waking up my MBA.

I have the same problem. What's strange is that all the remedies posted on this issue are either irrelevant or din not apply to me. This indicated the problem is deeper that suggested. (iMac, OS 10.10.1 and a pretty clean system with few external devices. Apple, are you listening?

I have this problem too. Mid 2013 Mac Air running Yosemite 10.10.1 freezes every time I open the lid and bring the computer out of sleep. I have followed all instructions listed in this and previous posts. Reset the PRAM. Turned off sleep. No screensaver. It is really annoying to have to do a hard reboot every time I open the lid. Thanks for any help that can be provided.

I have this problem on a BRAND NEW Mac Pro. It started happening within a week, so I erased the disk & reinstalled Yosemite. The problem came back about a week later!

The ONLY things I have done with the computer this second time that might be causing this: Set display to never sleep, Firewall on & require password after 1 hr., Set desktop to solid color, attached a thunderbolt drive, Set Finder prefs to show HDs & connected servers, Turned wifi off, Renamed computer in Network Settings & Sharing, Disabled natural scroll for Mouse, Turned bluetooth off. I literally catalogued all my actions because the first time

So I am now in the process of resetting PRAM & undoing some of the above settings I have made. In the last year, I have really come to realize the entire software side of Apple & the ecosystem is pure garbage once you tip the slope going downhill on problems...

Just updated to 10.10.4 on my Mac Pro in hopes that it would correct some 10.10.3 problems. It's WORSE! My Mac has been completely freezing (other than the cursor) in both iTunes (12.2.1) and Safari (8.0.7). Yosemite has been the hands-down worst OS I have used on a Mac in 20 years.

Me too. Since I've upgraded to Yosemite about two months ago on my MacPro, my computer keyboard and mouse freeze up twice a day minimum. I have tried every suggested route to resolve it (resetting PRAM, logitech update, cleaning out fonts, etc..) There doesn't appear to be any particular thing that locks it up -- sleep, no sleep -- it doesn't matter. It is terribly frustrating and I can't imagine it is good for my hardware to do a button reset twice a day or more. Never been more disappointed with Apple. I waited so long to update to avoid these issues but looks like this is an issue that has been going on since the beginning and no attempts to fix.
