Am I the only one (still...) having issues with Bluetooth after upgrading to iOS 8.1...?

Hi fellas,

I guess my expectation level was way too high regarding this upgrade from iOS 8.0.2 to 8.1: my iPhone 6 still can't connect to Bluetooth peripherals, whatever they may be...

I have a MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard, and a PC with Windows 8.1 update on it, and none of them can pair with the iPhone, no matter how hard I try.

Have you guys found workaround measures or (hopefully) solutions?

I swore today was my last day going to work with the crappy Apple-issue headphones that came with the phone, and I'd pack my faithful Sony Ericsson BT to work tomorrow... 😠

In the same boat here. I have an iPhone 6 and was annoyed that the upgraded phone wasn't able to stay paired with my Bluetooth headphones (Jaybird Freedom 4). I tried everything under the sun and, when I read that Apple was fixing this issue in the 8.1 update, I thought I would just hang on until then. That was the first thing I tried after installing the update tonight and... no dice! Seriously, I thought Apple used to do a much better job of addressing all things user experience. This started as a mild irritation and consumed entirely too much of my life.

Hey guys.. I was just about to give up on it too, specially when I found out it still wasn't fixed on its own when I updated to iOS 8.1. I don't ever post stuff but I thought it'd be best to let you guys know what I did as I FINALLY got it to work! Heres what I did:

Signed out of iCloud on my iPhone and Mac, then signed back in and when the prompts came up asking if I wanted to keep or delete the iCloud stuff on my phone I chose to keep them obviously.

Then on my Mac when I signed back in it also gave me a bunch of prompts to sync/merge contacts, mail etc. Make sure you set up Keychain as I somehow believe that played a big role in the fix, don't ask why but just do it haha.

Finally I switched off bluetooth on my iPhone and Mac, restarted the Mac and restarted my phone using the home button + lock button method (hold them both down for about 10 seconds or so). Note I restarted them at both the same time (somewhat) as I just had a superstition that'd make things work as I was desperate to try anything lol. Then I switched bluetooth on on both devices. Then I decided to send a photo from my mac to iPhone and vice versa using Airdrop to kind of force a connection between the 2. After that I used my iPhone as a personal hotspot for my mac to also force a connection (again, still desperate to try anything). Then I restarted both devices as I did before, and out of nowhere voila! The beautiful safari icon popped up on my dock when I opened safari on my iPhone, and the icon appeared on the lock screen when I used safari on my mac! I tried every app that I could think of that used continuity and they all worked!

But then a few hours later when I came back to my mac i noticed the app continuity only worked from my phone to mac but not the other way around even though I could still send SMS and calls through my mac. I tried restarting both devices but it still only worked from iPhone to mac 😟 so if anyone can find a fix to get back continuity back from my Mac to iPhone that'd be great 🙂

Hope this works for all of you! If it does please repost this to other forums you come across as Ive seen 10+ other forums regarding the same issue! Still a shame Apple had to make finding a fix (thats still buggy) THIS complicated! Not everyone has the time or patience to do what I just did! PLEASE FIX THIS PROPERLY APPLE!!!!

Sorry to hear of the issues. Upgrading the phone's iOS should be easy, it should enhance the experience not frustrate, and yet clearly it does not. Unlike with the Mac, where I had a full clone waiting to revert back to had Yosemite been a pain, there is no way to do that with the phone. Even allowing people to revert back to iOS7 would be something, but of course they stop that as well further compounding the frustration of some who just want to get on with their lives but have become forced to deal with problems they should not be facing.

We know new releases can be buggy, especially with Apple these days, and yet this is already the 3rd iteration and people are still not having the Apple experience they should. Yet, Apple just reported record profits for the last quarter, so are still laughing all the way to the bank. Be warned though - all empires topple at some point. Too much more of this and people will vote with their wallets.

Hi,

ok, FoxFifth says, that iPhone does not connect with an Mac with bluetooth. (Thanks for this hint)

Instant Hotspot also works with 8.1.

But when iPhone does not connect via bluetooth to macbook, why my iPad air does?

my iPad air (iOS 8.1) connects to my macbook pro retina late 2013, OS X Yosemite, my iPhone does not.

and my iPhone also is not seen in bluetooth devices on iPad. And my iPad is not seen as bluetooth device on iPhone.

This is frustration.

Is this a feature, a software bug or an hardware bug?

Same problem here..with 2015 Sienna...IOS8.1 won't transfer my contacts to the vehicle and indeed it took MANY tries to get it paired. Really hard to believe all the bugs when it is a closed ecosystem.....software division is not doing it's job...must be too concerned with all the "cool new features" to bother with making it work for the millions of folks who already use the system. Seriously thinking about leaving Apple.

I have the same problems now and didn't before I updated to 8.1...

I have an Acura TL and an iPhone 6 now running 8.1. Before I was running 8.0.2 and my iPhone would connect to my "Hands Free Link" in my Acura NO PROBLEM like all my previous iPhones but after I updated to 8.1 I can no longer make or revieve calls via the "Hands Free" system. When I get into my car with bluetooth on, on my phone, the phone will connect to the vehicle but it will cripple the entire system. I cannot play my music via my connected iPod and when I press the button to voice command a call prompt it beeps for a second like it is waiting for the command and then just does nothing. I don't know what to do and Apple customer service is of NO help what so ever. I have loved Apple products for so long now and I understand things have to be worked out as NOTHING is ever perfect. But the quality control of Apple seems to be diminishing GREATLY!! I don't understand how a company can expect you to trust them with something as personal and private as Apple Pay when they cannot even fix a simple Bluetooth connectivity issue that pretty much NO ONE was having before the iOS updates. The old saying "If it isn't broke, don't fix it" applies here very well.

I've just upgraded my iPhone 5S to iOS 8.1 but it STILL won't connect to my in-car Bluetooth on either our Toyota or our Audi. It can find the devices but will not connect and eventually times out. This is extremely frustrating. We've 'forgotten' the devices, reset the phone, switched it off and on and everying else we can think of to try and remedy this. Come on Apple, sort it out!!!

Same problem here on my 6 Plus.....it will connect to my Honda but when I am in the middle of a call it will lose bluetooth connectivity....transfer the call to the iPhone then a few seconds later back to the car.....it does this constantly during a conversation. Called Apple and they think it's my car...yet...everything worked until I upgraded to iOS 8.1. Not cool!

Am I the only one (still...) having issues with Bluetooth after upgrading to iOS 8.1...?
