Am I the only one (still...) having issues with Bluetooth after upgrading to iOS 8.1...?

Hi fellas,

I guess my expectation level was way too high regarding this upgrade from iOS 8.0.2 to 8.1: my iPhone 6 still can't connect to Bluetooth peripherals, whatever they may be...

I have a MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard, and a PC with Windows 8.1 update on it, and none of them can pair with the iPhone, no matter how hard I try.

Have you guys found workaround measures or (hopefully) solutions?

I swore today was my last day going to work with the crappy Apple-issue headphones that came with the phone, and I'd pack my faithful Sony Ericsson BT to work tomorrow... 😠

This isn't actually true. The MacBook Air for example uses bluetooth to share files via Airdrop, or answer your phone.

Hence, everyone complaining about this issue. My iPhone 6plus connects and does these things fine with my macbook pro, but my wife's won't connect with her 2012 MacBook Air.

Also, her iPhone has trouble connecting to her car, while mine does fine. (Using Bluetooth) She can listen to music, but not answer the phone.

In other words: IT'S A GLITCH.

My computer absolutely did not work with my iPhone 6Plus, wouldn't answer the phone, etc. After 2 hours of following all these recommendations, have it on same network, try to get on Bluetooth (Wouldn't pair), etc. I did figure out one thing:

iMessage wasn't logged in. Once I started iMessage, I could answer my phone with my 2012 MacBook Air! Hey, it's not everything, but it's something.

I don't believe that I said that it doesn't use bluetooth to answer the phone (Continuity). It is however not designed to PAIR via Bluetooth between an iPhone and a computer. The following gives more details on this. The issue with the car is a different matter. See the following regarding pairing an iPhone and a computer: Bluetooth: Why can't I pair my iPhone or iPad with another iOS device or with my computer?

My bluetooth in car stopped working with the 8.0.2 update, and I was hoping the 8.1 update would fix it. It seems to be totally related to these most recent updates as the bluetooth never had issues in my car before. I really hope Apple works to fix the issue, I miss bluetooth in the car. I tried all the different fixes people have suggested. If I reboot the phone, and wait until I get the car started, and then manually pair the device it sometimes works, but only for that single time. If I switch to the radio and back to bluetooth it says no device found, This in spite of each having said and showing they were paired. I haven't been able to call at all in any way since the updates. Also rebooting the phone doesn't always allow bluetooth as just described, it seems randomly to sometimes work for a single connection. Please Apple fix the problem.

First of all we had that intrusive music that required a full reset to delete, and now this.

This is hilarious 😐 I had no problem transferring files from my Samsung Galaxy S3 to my iMac. It was a snap! Just turn on Bluetooth, hit pair, input a code and I'm golden. But I'll be hornswaggled if I can do it with my new iPhone 6. Apparently one device thinks the other is incompatible. One is running iOS 8.1, the other Yosemite. Considering both pieces of hardware were purchased new, post 2012, direct from Apple, I'd say that's unacceptable.

Samsung, if you're reading this, here's where you can score a home run Apple's ineptitude. That bending phone thing was unconvincing, but this is real. They can't even get their own phone to pair with their own desktop computer! How lame is that?

APPLE - you're totally lame, and I mean that most sincerely. I paid good money for this iPhone 6 product from a world-leading company, and based on your CEO's representations, I had expectations it would work as advertised.

So far it doesn't.

If the device won't pair easily making it it easy to transfer photos from my iPhone to my iMac... somebody's lost the plot, and right now I feel like the joke's on me.

I Tried your advice. It did work for the initial connection. I switched to radio in the car and then back to Bluetooth and got the same old message. No device connected. I didn't get to see if the phone was able to make calls before it went haywire again. For what it's worth I have all Apple products and the latest software on all my products. The trouble for me started with the 8.0.2 update before that all was well.

My iPhone 5s does not connect correctly to my Plantroncis Discovery 975 headset. Upgrading to 8.1 didn't fix the problem. Interestingly the headset 'connects' (i.e. it shows in the top right of the home screen that the phone connected via Bluetooth) but no sound comes through the headset. I hear none of the normal on/off tones or anything. I've tried having the iPhone 'forget this device' and then reconnecting. I've done this after shutting down the phone and even turning off Wi-fi. Ironically, this seems to be only an issues with the Discovery 975: I have an older Discovery 925 model and it works just fine with my phone!

Help? Ideas? Very frustrating!

My problem was slightly different, but I will post this anyhow since something in here might be of some use to you or somebody else: I was trying to get an AirDrop connection between an iphone 6 (iOS 8.1), a mid-2011 iMac, and a late 2012 MacBook (both running Yosemite).

Airdrop

I had an Apple Tech Support session in the end, but there were no revelations. Almost everything they told me I'd already read on the Apple Support site. The only 'revelation' was device re-sets.

Apple Tech Support peeps ran me through the basic steps I'd already been through, as well as well as a network reset.

Finally it came down to a compatibility issue. AirDrop from my iphone just won't work on a pre 13.1 model (late 2012) imac.

It works on my lat 2012 MacBook Pro however. But it took a while to get started, like 15-20 minutes of leaving the two devices next to each other. At first I could only send from my macbook to my iphone, but after a few files transferred, I was able to see my macbook on my iphone. Transferring files today takes a minute or two before the phone will see the laptop, and the files are now going straight into my Downloads folder.

I've skirted around the iMac problem by installing Google Drive, where I have more free space than iCloud offers. Files transfer pretty easily with Google Drive.

Bluetooth

My iphone still doesn't 'see' my iMac or MacBook in Settings > Bluetooth > My Devices.

But it does see my LG700 headset. I have succeeded in using the two for calls and Siri.

This has been posted over and over and over and over and over (even in this message thread, look at the 2nd post) - but I'll repeat it again. NO IPHONE WILL PAIR WITH A MAC OR ANY OTHER COMPUTING DEVICE, EXCEPT FOR TETHERING. They never have in the past, and they don't now. The don't need to pair to support any of the new continuity features. See: Bluetooth: Why can't I pair my iPhone or iPad with another iOS device or with my computer?

Am I the only one (still...) having issues with Bluetooth after upgrading to iOS 8.1...?
