Hi, my iPhone 6 running the up to date IOS 8.1 does not notify new emails until I turn off the Mail app (or open the app and manually update). It won't notify me when the app is running in background. Does anyone have similar problems or knows the solution please? Thank you in advance.

Same problem with an iPad air and ios8.1.
No clue about a solution other than remembering to close the app each time.
Settings app > Mail,Contacts,Calendars > Fetch New Data.
Thanks for comment Andrew1472. The push notification seems to be one of the major issues with the iOS 8. There's gotta be a better solution than close the app every single time...
Hi James, this will be the same as you open the app and slid down every 15 or 30 or 60 mins. This is when the phone grab message from the server. But what I am saying is that the server cannot push message to the phone, which is the other way around.
Which is why you would turn Push ON in that setting, and set a time frequency for Fetch when Push is not available.
An by the way, Push is working fine in iOS 8.
Push is on and fetch is set to 30 minutes James. Nothing happens if the mail app is in the background. No notifications until I bring the app to the foreground Which is a bit late to say the least. It only works if the app is closed.
Off topic I know, but it's almost impossible to reply here on the iPad too. The cursor plus upper and lower case have minds of their own!
The push is always ON. I put my iPhone 6 and 5 together, 6 is running iOS 8 and 5 is running IOS 7. Both are with same push and fetch setup. Mail app on both phone are running in the background. Then I send a test email from my computer. And the 5 rings and shows a badge on the conner of the app in 10 seconds, but the 6 never does until I close the app. This means the server is pushing fine, but the IOS 8 is not receiving fine.
Yeah - this site doesn't (never has) mixed will with Safari on iOS.
As to you issue, not sure what to tell you. I'm getting notifications just fine from Gmail, iCloud mail, and an additional POP account. That goes for the native Mail app and Mailbox (which is what I primarily use).
What email provider(s) do you use?
Outlook and Gmail, and just to make me look stupid I was notified correctly of your reply. I.e. The mail app was in the background.
I will monitor it for 24 hours and see what happens.
OK. Could be a self correcting issue associated with the update. Gmail occasionally has some hang ups right after an iOS update.
Outlook I can't comment on, since I get that via MS OWA app (work account).
Can it be a hardware problem then? Even these emails from the discussion I cannot receive.. Or a compatible issue between gmail and IOS 8?
Hardware? No, I seriously doubt it. Hardware would not effect just that function.
Have you tried deleting and re-adding the account(s)?
I tried. But I will do it again just in case.
It still doesn't work. May be its just a Gmail issue. Since both of my email accounts are Gmail. Thanks for your suggestions anyway.
Have you tried the Gmail app?
It has the advantage of push by default and may be useful until we find out what is going wrong with the built in mail app.
You might like it better anyway.
