iPhone 6 Plus Dropped Calls (Verizon)

iPhone 6 Plus, 128GB, Space Gray

RESPONSES NEEDED!!

Ok. I have been having poor signal strength and 100's of dropped calls since upgrading from an iPhone 5 to iPhone 6 Plus. (Both the iPhone 5 and 6 Plus are on the Verizon network) I have spent over 50 hours dealing with Apple TSS, the Apple Store and Verizon TSS. I have done multiple network resets. I have performed numerous restores. I have set the phone up as new after every restore. I have had my SIM card replaced, I have had Verizon reprovision my line numerous times. And I even had my 6 Plus exchanged. My first iPhone 6 Plus shipped with IOS 8 and had these issues. When I upgraded to IOS 8.0.2 it did not help resolve the issues. Then when I upgraded to IOS 8.1 it still did not help resolve the issues. Nothing has solved my issues.

My wife does not seem to be having these issues with her iPhone 6 Plus, 128GB, Silver. I am unsure if she is not having the issue because she travels a the same short distance day to day. I travel primarily about a 150 mile radius around Atlanta on a day to day basis which may explain why I am having these issues and she is not.

I am seeing a lot of threads in the Apple forums as well as the Verizon forums where people are complaint of these same issues. Verizon admits that they are

receiving numerous complaints from iPhone 6 customers having these issues. Apple states I am an isolated case.

Ok. I know this may sound a like an odd question but I wonder if this problem is iPhone color specific. I am not sure what materials go into the coating of the iPhone 6, I am not sure if it is a metallic powder coat or some other process, I doubt it is just painted. My wives iPhone 6 Plus is Silver and it seems she is not having these issues. It also appears that not all iPhone 6 customers are having these issues. I have noticed that some people having these issues state they have a space gray model (Like I do). I do not remember seeing any post about someone having a Silver or Gold iPhone 6 having these issues.

Thank you

I have read a number of threads where Verizon is aware of issues like this where they are rolling out their VoLTE networks. They are not working correctly, and as a result, voice calls are not working right. The fix for people in those situations is to turn of LTE for voice and data. I see where this was mentioned once in this thread, but a poster said that it didn't work. Once you do that, a reset should be in order. I would check with Verizon again and see if the area you are having issues with is one of the test areas. I do know the Chicago area is one of them, not sure of others.

The VoLTE feature is still sort of "beta" with Verizon. They advise that users may not see the same level of service they are used to. I haven't gotten my 6 yet so I haven't had a chance to play with it myself.

Yes, and it is affecting AT&T customers in the Chicagoland area as well. From what I have read, both carriers are trying to roll out the beta in the Chicago area, and it is not working as well as they had hoped. The carriers are supposedly advising customers to turn of the VoLTE until the bugs are worked out. They are not real vocal about it, but if someone calls, they are provided with some information. Thanks for your insight.

It's my understanding that the feature isn't being offered proactively at this point, only upon customer request. However, when I ordered my iPhone online, the feature popped up as an option. I added it, assuming that I can turn it off on the phone if it doesn't work out. Of course, I hardly ever talk on the phone so, it might not be much of a problem for me. 😉

iPhone 64G gold is also dropping calls..

I was able to fix the dropped calls issue by turning the LTE off.

It ***** being on 3G but I would like to know if this is the problem with Apple's hardware or Verizon's LTE network?

No issues with with 5S and iPhone 6

You don't need to turn LTE off. Just set it to data only.

I have a 64Gb 6 Plus silver, and have severe connection problems (Verizon).

I was on the phone with Verizon customer service when it happened (among many other times). Suddenly my voice goes away, the other side can no longer understand what I'm saying. It's as if I was a mile away. Then my voice comes back again.

This happened three times on a 21 minute call.

I had to stop a call to my credit card company because the rep could not understand my address even after I repeated it three times.

I had a couple of dropped calls - so dropped calls is not the issue for me. It's the phasing out of the phone connection, and then coming back (or not).

It seems to me that when you move while on the phone the connection quality goes to "a mile away". So I am standing up, or sit down during a call, the connection phases out. As a test, I slightly waved my hand holding the phone, and the connection went out to an indistinguishable rumble.

Looks like some contact is loose in there, maybe a variation of the antenna issue that an older model iPhone had.

Going to Wifi does not help - Wifi connection is so bad it's not usable to make phone calls (router is a two year old Apple router).

PS: I have not activated VOLPE. I read you have to start this activation from your Verizon account, but I couldn't find the item in the menu.

OMG!!!

I have this problem with both a 6- 64 gig gold, and a 6 plus 128g gray!! Verizon.

I have turned off the voice and data (helped a very little) BUT I still get dropped calls and just CRAP for reception, I thought it was verizon, and now after reading this am pretty sure it is!!! BUT not totally sure.

I have reset, actually I have to reset and restore my 6 Plus everytime I get an ios update or my plus acts up totally, gets hot, major dropped calls if they even go thru at all, ect..

AND for those that say put it into voice only BS, I have done that, and still get dropped calls, now I USE MY PHONE ALL THE TIME as you MOST likely do not, or you would see it does help a little, but the problem is still there!

I have also swapped my sim with NO HELP at all.

My coworker has a 5 and wants a 6 plus, but after he sees me dropping calls ALL THE TIME he does not want one until this gets resolved!!

yes, that is my EXACT issue. It sounds as if I'm a mile away. It is happening on nearly every call. i am on my 4th 6 Plus and I've given up. I went back to my 5S and the problem is gone. Obviously we have turned off LTE and every other thing you can think of. They are now sending me a regular 6 and I'm hoping it just goes away, but I feel cursed at this point. 🙂

yea, i kinda figure it isn't going to work.

Verizon has said its where I live, which is ludicrous. We have 4 iPhones here and only that one has an issue. and they had me marking calls when it happened and that proved it was happening everywhere I went. When the Tier 2 tech guy told me the engineers said it was where I lived and they would just send me yet another phone, even he admitted nothing was going to change. Problem is Big Red says it is Apple's fault, and Apple points at Verizon.

I will either live with my 5S or switch to AT&T one line at a time.

Does anyone know if i can get my apple care plus to transfer over to the 6? (Assuming I get lucky and it actually works.)

Best of luck and please post your results.

I know for me my wife is complaining and she has the 6 not plus.

That is exactly why I have not contacted either, last time I spend hours (I think 4+ hours) on the phone and a trip to verizon (1 hour more) for a sim swap, with both apple and verizon pointing fingers back and forth only to find out I needed to wipe my phone and restore, I can't stand it, we should be paid for being their beta testers!

But this is a major issue, Dropped calls suck!
