iOs 8.1 Mail app keeps asking for iCloud password

Since the update to iOs 8.1 i have a problem with my mailbox.

Every time i want to create a new mail, it asks me for my iCloud password.

This happens on my iPhone (6) and iPad (Air) while im in my iCloud inbox, Gmail inbox, or just the general overview.

Whenever i press the create new mail icon it will ask for my iCloud password.

- When i give the iCloud password (correct one) it wont ask for it again in the next 15 mins

- When i dont give the iCloud password (cancel) i can just send mails but it will ask for the password whenever i create a new mail.

What i did:

- Remove iCloud account > reboot > Add iCloud account > didnt solve the problem

- Remove Keychain > didnt solve the problem

- Remove iCloud photo's > didnt solve the problem

- Remove iCloud mail > still asks for the iCloud password.

- Remove iCloud > solves the problem but i dont want to remove iCloud

- Disabled all iCloud options, (mail, contacts, etc) > didnt solve the problem

- Disabled 2 step verification > didnt solve the problem

Everytime i want to create a new mail, u see the phone/pad use the "syncing icon" 3x 5 seconds, maybe a link here?

Anyone else with any ideas that i can try?

(Here's how fouled up my Apple devices are post-iOS8: I had to use my PC laptop to post this comment. Due to one of the many bugs introduced with that "upgrade" I can't get past the login screen on my iPad or phone...)

Has anyone tried putting their malfunctioning device into a paper bag along with a pound of gravel and some maple syrup, then mailing the whole frigging thing to Apple HQ? It won't fix your problem but it may make you feel somewhat better about the whole situation.

Hey Niznolwd,

Any chance you have used any capital letters when you entered your iCloud username on your phone. I always use a capital letter at the start of mine. Not sure why. I think it looks better!

Anyway, Apple Engineering just suggested to me that the capital letter in my username might be causing a problem and that I should follow this process:

1. Log out of iCloud on the iPhone

2. Restart the iPhone

3. Log in to iCloud using all lowercase letters.

As you might imagine I was pretty sceptical that this would have any affect. Well, it seems to have solved it. I've now been creating new emails and enabling AirDrop "Contacts Only" for over an hour without any password popups. I've also enabled Airplane mode as that has proved to be a quick way to force the issue to reappear and I still don't see the password popup.

I don't want to get too excited but this is the longest I've had without the problem reappearing. Give it a go on your iPhone and let me know please. Hopefully this is the final fix and everyone can use it to solve their issue.

This is great news because it's so far has worked for me as well and my iPhone 6+ as well as my iPad air too.

The additional step after logging out was that and I reset my passwords using apple reset password on the iCloud

these are the steps that I did

1. Log off of iCloud and iTunes on my iPhone and iPad and any other eye device may have completely log off and remove your account.

2. Power off your device by holding the power button and slide to turn off

3. Go to I forgot password or reset your password and iCloud after doing so wait a minute or two

4. Boot back your eye device and log into iCloud first enter all the appropriate parameters including your password

5. Then log back into iTunes and you're all set

so far these above steps have work for me and then iPhone and iPad I will give it some time and see what happens but so far so good.

Some additional tidbits here when I went back to add my Apple pay cards I had to verify my credit cards where before I did not have to do so I wonder if there was something in relation to resetting my password which triggered something to take affect

PS I reset my password but I did not use a capital letter for the first character I used capitals in the middle but I don't think it really matters if it's just resetting your password is what made the difference because I've had that password for quite some time now and I think resetting it is all you needed to do
