iPad Air 2 freezes from time to time

I had an iPad Air (1) for a year or so .... it never froze up. I moved to a new iPad Air 2 when it came out. It freezes up from time to time. Maybe a couple times a day, then I might go day or so when it doesn't freeze, and then it will do it again. The screen just freezes. I have to reboot it each time it does this. And there's no discernible pattern to what might be triggering it. It can happen in any app, or when I tap on any app.

I know I can try doing a restore (I'd rather not... I really hate doing that... takes forever). I'll do a restore if this becomes a real problem. It's interesting that for the year I owned the iPad Air (1), it NEVER froze -- it was rock solid. In the couple weeks I've had the iPad Air 2, it's freezed up on me probably about 10 times. I'm hoping that perhaps an update will address this (unless, of course, I have a lemon).

I'm wondering if any one else has encountered this. Thanks....

8.1.1 seems to have fixed my lockup problems. Hurray!

I'm still good also but I didn't notice Apple recognising the problem. Didn't want to admit any specific issues I guess.

My iPad Air 2 128gb freezes periodically too. The screen goes black and the apple logo appears. Eventually it starts working again without me doing anything. Ive asked Apple for help, they seem to thinking the memory is struggling because I have too many programs running. I had an iPad 2 for years, I never had this problem.

It has been a week since I installed iOS 8.1.1 and I've had NO freezes since then. Have to assume that the update fixed the problem. Good luck to those still getting freezes.

Just switched to ipad air 2 64GB and encounter same issue, iPad always freeze and have to reboot. No issue with iPad 4th generation.

Have air 2 64gb cellular model, so far have encountered one random reset (going black followed by Apple logo appearing), and repeated freezes while in safari - twice in a row today however each time was able to close the app and relaunch withour having to reboot. Have not yet upgraded to 8.1.1, am a bit worried at this point that the new version might fix some problems but make others worse!

Have you updated to the latest software? I had the problem but it stopped about 2 weeks ago when I updated.

I experienced the same story. My device stopped working properly while writing a note. I could still navigate within the application and pull up/down the menus but I was unable to close the application or get back to the home screen. Ultimately I had to reboot the iPad. Today I experienced the same Bluetooth connectivity issues talked about in other threads when trying to listen to music over my UE boom. This is unacceptable for a "premium" brand with very steep prices compared to Samsung & Co. Design is one thing. Functionality another. Apple always considered itself to be solid.

I have had my iPad Air 2 64G for a few weeks now with 8.1.1 and it never froze. I just updated to 8.1.2 yesterday and it just froze this morning. Looks like 8.1.2 has brought this issue back.

I just arrived home after being away for two weeks during which I noticed an update of 8.1.2 to be performed which I was going to do this morning. After reading your comment, I think I will hold off for now. My iPad Air2 with 8.1.1 seems to be working perfectly. Why break something that isn't broken? Thanks for the heads-up, kenhenriksen!

Hold that the power and home buttons at the same time to do a hard reset. I'm performing a restore now through iTunes. I've never performed a "restore" before, but I find it interesting that the patch for 8.1.2 was installed yet the restore script says it needs to download version 8.1.2 before it can restore my iPad Air 2. On my internet it's expected to take three hours. But I know that Apple will tell me to perform a "restore" to try to resolve any issues. I'm wondering if the update process itself is the culprit here. Fingers crossed 😀

My iPad 2 air freezes too. One time the screen went completely black and it didn't respond to anything until I did a reset. The other day the screen froze for a couple of minutes and I had to do a reset again. Someone mentioned IOS 8.1.1 would fix the problem, however, 8.1.1 is now being replaced by 8.1.2. I thought to give it a try before I read another person saying that 8.1.2 brought back the bug. I'm very disappointed in Apple ...

We bought 2 iPad Air 2s and did have the freezing on both, however with update to 8.1, no more problems. Recently updated to 8.2 and still no more freezes. Love these guys.
