ios crash report due to a third party application

My son was watching something on his iPhone (5c) iOS 7.1.2 and received this message in Safari "http://supportcallnow<dot>com 'warning!! iOS Crash Report' " Due to a third party application in your phone, iOS crashed. Contact Support for an immediate fix - 1800-***-2251.

Fairly sure this is a virus or at least a scam. Have already tried to reset by holding the power and square down until the apple icon appears, but to no avail. I cannot get the message off of the Safari screen .

Help!

The first time we got this message I did not call the number I just restored the phone from a backup we had done the day before. Then I searched the issue and ended up here. I disabled popups and ended up with this message again about a week later. The site it was on for me was pixgood.com. My daughter was looking for pictures of cats and clicked on one and then clicked to go to page. When it showed up again I knew how to fix it. Sooo glad there is an easier fix 😁 Thank you so much it worked perfectly and was so easy

I had the same issue with my phone today. I was able to close the window but I am wondering how they are able to do this? I have pop ups blocked, always have. I also ended up with it coming up while reading a gardening blog by a reputable person. After reading through this is happening on all different sites. Isn't there anything Apple can do to stop it? It has been going on for months.

This is what popped up on my iPad tonight. I went int settings>Safari>Clear history & data. That fixed my problem; however, I was FREAKING OUT!!! I then blocked my number and dialed the number and it has a prerecorded women's voice that mentions "enter your extension. I hung up before an actual person picked up, and the site I was on was about Gorilla Glass.

Also note for future reference:
This (and other scams) use inconsistent spellings.

On one line it says "IOS" and on another line it says iOS"

On one line it says "i-phone" and on another line it says "iPhone".

You know, of course, that real messages from Apple or Apple developers are consistent in spelling,

and they don't use the word "immediately" either.

This occurred on my niece's phone tonight. It was read to me via the phone and without seeing it the first thing I noticed was the poor grammar. That is not Apple for sure! To find out where this number originated I dialed it from a landline. Never would I suggest anyone using their iphone to dial this as you do not know who or what is on the other end and what they are able to interject into your phone or receive from your phone during or after that call. It was a female computerized voice requesting me to enter the extension I was trying to reach. I entered nothing however there was not any time to even if you wanted to. Now that I can see the original Message that came on the phone, as you can find on page 4 of this web site, I can also see the errors in how they incorrectly used the abbreviation for the mobile operating system. This is attached to advertisements sent out from the websites you visit with the websites owner unaware of the problem. Contact them and let them know. Also, within minutes of being notified about this by her mother the phone's memory started being eaten up with reports coming across the screen that she no longer had enough storage space. So these folks are getting wiser (unfortunately) and faster in how they are attacking the iPhones and they have gone from scammers to imbedding viruses. God help us all. Protect your iPhone. Apparently they are virus approachable now.
