I cannot delete iPhone keyboard shortcuts. They keep restoring.

I have deleted old keyboard shortcuts that were no longer used and added new ones using the same shortcut. For instance typing "eml" would auto-fill with my old email address. I deleted this shortcut and made a new one - "eml" = new email address. iCloud keeps restoring the old shortcuts, so now I have two "eml" shortcuts with two different email addresses. Also, old shortcuts are constantly being restored! I cannot delete any shortcut! They will delete for a couple of days and then they are "restored" to my iPhone. How the heck do you permanently delete keyboard shortcuts in iOS? I tried turning off backup, deleting, turning on, waiting, updating to no avail. Is there a way to completely wipe the backup/settings file stored in iCloud for an iOS device?

What i did is i delete all the shortcuts. Chose another language as the only keyboard. Reset the phone/ipad 3 times. With each reset do check whether does the shortcuts came back or not. It didn't for me. Then delete away the foreign language keyboard and choose your own language and then add back the shortcuts you need. Problem solved for me.

Two issues:

1. I can only "open" icopybot when I am not connected to my iphone; I have tried restarting the program repeatedly, as well as my phone, my computer etc. before I concluded on this issue.

2. The "icopybot" interface was nothing like as stated from the fix (no system files or anything of that sort; the "ibackupbot" interface was exactly as mentioned in the previous posts, however.

I'm not sure how I mis-downloaded the program....

This is a really weird and frustrating issue and I hope Apple will fix it in iOS 9 !!!

I do not own a Mac so cannot follow this "fix" you describe pagemakers4 and there seems to be no rhyme of reason to the periodic return of the zombie shortcuts.

I have an iPhone 5 and an iPad Air 2, both will behave perfectly for weeks, then for some reason both of them will repopulate the Keyboard shortcuts list with a number that have been deleted. I re-delete them on both devices and calm is restored .... until the next time!

When this happens does not coincide with iCloud Backups, it seems quite random and affects both devices at the same time.

Huge apology to bowtielee!!! I was confused by your issue with icopybot and I went back to look and indeed you were using the correct program. ibackupbot is the right one, but is located at the icopybot website. It's been so long since I used it I got them confused. My sincere apologies! And yes there is both a windows and an Apple version of the sofware for iTunes.

The Book of the Prophet Turing

Chapter 6 In the year that Philosopher Mozi died, I saw the Developers, high and exalted, seated on a throne; and the train of their robes filled the temple.2 Above them were Engineers, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their pudenda, and with two they were flying.3 And they were calling to one another:

“Holy, holy, holy are the Developers;
the whole system is full of their glory.”

4 At the sound of their voices, the doorposts and thresholds shook, and the temple was filled with smoke.

Oh, my... The Guardians of Asgard will be so eager to demolish your post with enchanted hammers (or whatever else may be at hand) and see that it is removed forever from the eyes of the Apple-ites. And, as they said: The sun will go black, earth sink in the sea, heaven be stripped of its bright stars..."

Um, well, that is if anyone in Asgard follows what's being said.

Good show, Peter.

Yes, my zombies are back as well. Will post when Apple says or does something...

I Have read this entire thread. I have been struggling with these shortcuts returning for over a year. I've tried almost everything. Nothing works.

Apple "engineers" were given access to my iCloud to fix the issue. I get a message saying the issue is fixed. However, within 12 hours, my shortcuts were back.

It seems random. Sometimes, all of the shortcuts return. Sometimes only some. Once, I had the default "omw" shortcut appear.

I suppose I can understand both the third party trust issue AND wanting Apple to fix THEIR problem, but at some point I'd suggest getting it fixed using Chris's solution and end your frustration. Apple is either incapable of fixing the problem or doesn't care. In either case I don't believe they'll ever fix it. Pagemaker and I and many others are now permanently zombie free. Remember you probably use third party applications every day on your computer and there have been absolutely no problems associated with this program. Good luck in whatever you decide to do next. AND I MUST SAY that was an OUTSTANDING post equalled only by crmac's reply!

COULD THIS BE IT ! (SIGN OUT of I-CLOUD - NOT JUST SIMPLY STOP I-CLOUD BACK UP)

I spoke to an apple techie today ( "Chris with no T at the end !) …. He explained that he had a t least three ongoing cases similar to ours. during out conversation he asked me to SIGN OUT of iCLOUD and then delete the zombies ! the issue is to do with I-CLOUD !

So far so good......... i even turned the phone ON and then OFF (as previously the zombies would re-appear and curse me once again) ….. so far so good as none have come back !

like everyone else who has wasted countless hours on this issue, i can only SCREAM for apple to get to the CORE of this as its killing us !!

ps the techie did say that" apple WERE AWARE OF THE ISSUE and WOULD FIX IT on the coming update !!" - yeah right ! 😐
