I need to disable to microphone recording thing on imessage, sent recordings to people by accident twice now with near disastrous results!

How do I disable the microphone recording thing on imessage? Siri is not activated but still the icon for the microphone is there and twice I have sent recordings by mistake - NOT good!

iPhone 5, iOS 8.0.2, microphone recording

I was able to get the icon to disappear from the menu bar on the text screen. Mine was for all message types not just imessage. The recorder box would come on and stay on blocking my view of the letters I was typing. I could still send typed messages but I couldn't get the box to go away. I turned off the voice response in the messages setting (see earlier post) but the recorder box and icon were still there. I shut my phone down and then restarted - no more microphone icon in the menu bar and no more recorder box. Let's hope it holds. BTW - I have an I6S on IOS 9 (haven't gone to 9.1 yet).

Good Luck!!

What you're referring to was a bug in iOS 9 that has since be resolved by, I believe the iOS 9.1 update. It is not the same as the built in audio that others want to have turned off.

That is true, however if you use iMessage, then you will no longer be able to use it, and people that you have iMessage with may have a difficult time for a few days sending you messages. You may not receive them right away. You have to purposely hold the button down to get an audio message, and once you have typed a single letter or space in the message, that button disappears and turns into the Send button. As I said earlier in this thread, I find it difficult to understand how someone can press and send something by accident.

The answer to the unwanted voice messages in iMessage appears to be related to the Raise to Listen feature.

Perhaps you didn't actually read the thread. This was already suggested back in 2015. And most people agreed it wasn't the answer to their problem. The "Raise to Listen" only kicks in if someone had sent an audio message to the people complaining about the problem. I don't see that anyone did.
