Mail not fetching new messages from GoDaddy IMAP

In both 10.10 and now with 10.10.1, Mail does not seem to want to fetch new messages from my GoDaddy IMAP account reliably. All of the other accounts seem to get new messages when they arrive at the server. I'm sure there are messages in my Inbox, as they're showing up immediately on my iPhone. "Synchronize All Accounts" does not seem to resolve the issue and I have to quit and relaunch Mail. The messages then come in immediately. I have mail set to check for new messages every minute. I can see it checking the GoDaddy account in the activity window, but it does not retrieve the messages.

I have tried taking accounts offline, I have rebuilt the mailbox. I even deleted the cache file and rebuilt it. Then I deleted the mailbox and recreated it. Nothing worked. I do have rather large email attachments. We are an animal rescue and the applications can get to a couple Meg, but that is it. I have two other go daddy accounts that don't have the large email attachments and they work just fine all the time.

I'm having the same problem ONLY it's on a POP service and not IMAP, so I think the problem is more widespread than just GoDaddy or GMAIL. My mail is on a private business server.

My MAC Mail suddenly and without warning stopped receiving incoming emails and LOST all of my email already in the inbox. I spent almost 4 hours online with remote IT services trying to fix this but it is still not working. I hear the incoming mail sound but no one can figure out where my mail is going as it is not coming into MAC Mail, and I have no other mail applications installed on my computer. All my SENT email is clearly visible and operating normally. We rebuilt MAC Mail but that didn't resolve anything. I upgraded to 10.10.1 the previous day. Could this be caused by the upgrade? I'm receiving my email on my iPhone and through webmail so it seems to be isolated to my MACBook Pro MAC Mail application.

Any idea how to solve this? Anyone?

Mavericks had a similar issue with godaddy imap and you could take all accounts offline and back on and it would update, with Yosemite I have to close the app and restart it. What I found is that when I check my iPhone inbox that is what triggers mail to stop grabbing messages on my MP and rMBP. So to not get fired from my job for missing email I try not to check my phone when I use the computer app and when I do use the iPhone I have to remember to restart my mail app on the computer. Basically if I stick with one method it works fine until I check the inbox somewhere else. Hardly a fix but it works better than Mavericks that had no rhyme or reason.

It is also a problem with POP3, not just IMAP. This seems to be widespread. My MAC Mail was working fine until the 10.10.1 update. Geek Squad Agents spent almost 8 hours trying to figure this out and get me up and running again. They did EVERYTHING! And I do mean EVERYTHING (a shout out to them for going above and beyond with this!) Nothing worked. It seems that no changes were made to MAC MAIL in the upgrade and it is still the version used in Mavericks. It also seems that it is NOT compatible with the 10.10.1 upgrade and therefore the PLIST file becomes corrupt even with a re-build (we re-built mine 2 times). They recommended a complete reinstall of 10.10.1, but due to the holiday selling season I'm going to wait until JAN to take my computer in to Best Buy for this. I'm also hoping that Apple will send out an update fixing this issue before then. In the mean time, they have installed Mozilla Thunderbird (a free open source mail app) so that I can send and receive email via my computer!

Apple will need to fix this but until them I'm recommending anyone with this problem try a complete reinstall or use another email application on their computer.

I checked some things out last night after re-reading these posts. Here's what I know in regards to godaddy imap issues on Yosemite and my situation:

-My iPhone gets the mail perfectly except godaddy doesn't push anymore, I have to manually check mail on my iPhone but it is always up to date and synced with what has been read on my other 2 computers and new mail messages (WITHOUT RESTARTING THE APP)

-My 2009 MP and 2013 rMBP both up to date on Yosemite have the same issue, if I check mail anywhere else it doesn't sync the new, read or flagged messages until I restart the mail apps where I'm looking.

-It's only an issue when I check mail somewhere else while leaving my mail apps open on the laptop and desktop (obviously if they were closed, they work properly when I open them)

-All of my mail/port info is the same on all 3 (it wasn't yesterday but I fixed it and all are on 993 but still have the issue)

-I turned of iCloud mail syncing to see if it was the issue and I still have the problem relying on just imap and godaddy

-Starting with Mav I've removed the accounts and started over several times and nothing changes

-I have 3 gmail, 2 exchange accounts, @me.com and none have a single issue after the latest Yosemite update (Exchange was wonky at first with Yosemite)

-When I was working on a fix in Mavericks I read some interesting info that helped my case immensely then but didn't totally fix it. I read that too many inquiries from the same IP to godaddy's server might be the problem. As in 4 iPhones, 2 iPads, 2MP's, 2 rMBP's all getting mail every minute with the same IP can be an issue with godaddy. Not sure if it has anything to do with this but in Mav I put everything I could (non essentials) on Verizon LTE and the missed mail issue rarely happened.

-At least with Yosemite I feel like I have a process so I don't miss any new email but this is unacceptable. I've been trouble shooting syncing with Apple since .mac and this is by far the worst it's ever been, and progressively worse since Mavericks - and MAIL of all things is the issue now. Ten years ago the only syncing problem was the colors on my iCal. I buy apple products for my business because they play nice together and this continues as an unresolved issue of maybe the most essential function of the devices involved. I don't care who's fault it is godaddy or mac, it just needs fixed by professionals. Why even test the OS? Just put it out there and let us troubleshoot it... I'm sure apple has the resources to get mail to work properly on their OS and iOS and I'll be holding on to my budget for nMP's until I see a change.

For what it's worth I just tested it on another system on my same network with the same results except the MP on this system is still on Mavericks.

MP Mavericks 10.9.5

rMBP Yosemite 10.10.1

iPhone 6 8.1.1

godaddy imap

I did another test on both setups removing the iPhone from the loop. So trying to sync the laptop to the desktop mail has the same issue but not with the Mavericks MP.

On the setup that is MP and rMBP both on Yosemite. If I open both mail apps fresh and send myself an email from a phone off my network. Both Yosemite mail apps stop syncing and new email stops coming in without restarting the app. This happens as soon as I read or flag an email on either.

Here's the kicker. On the system that is MP Mavericks, rMBP Yosemite. The rMBP Yosemite mail stops working when they are both open but the MP on Mavericks works perfectly. Almost instantly syncing read, flagged and new messages while the Yosemite mail freezes.

I tried a few different things tonight and nothing worked. I can not get my mail to update beyond 11/4. So I rebuilt again and noticed that I have the same number of emails in the client as I do on the server. However, the dates in the client go back further. So I deleted the ones on the client to see if that would sync it up...and all it did was delete that many more from the server. ugh....it appears that the sync is counting from the wrong point. tomorrow I may call apple and invest some more time in this.
