Yosemite 10.10.1 causing Safari not to play YouTube videos...

Hi guys/girls,

I installed Yosemite on my iMac (20-inch, Mid 2007) when it was first released and I had no issues whatsoever.

Last night I updated Yosemite to 10.10.1 and now all of a sudden Safari Version 8.0 (10600.1.25.1) won't play any YouTube videos. All I get is a black screen with a little audio clipping.

When using Firefox (v32.1.1) or Chrome (v38.0.2125.122) everything works ok.

Any thoughts?

@macrojd - are you able to open a new tab, go to a different website and then close the YouTube tab? This should help.

Thanks robsone88 - that seems a great temporary fix although I had to select Firefox as Chrome didn't seem to work so great for some reason (as seen below):

Same here... Looks like a Google problem... Just started today. Oh well, will be using Chrome for anything Youtube until fixed.

Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

Same problem. It appears to be related to HTML5. One workaround I found online is to install the "Click to Flash" extension in Safari, then change the default playback to Flash in the Click to Flash settings. It's just a bandaid to the real problem, but it works. Cheers.

Thanks Eric Root - feedback sent (linking to this thread).

I've re-installed the Flash Player (already had the latest version) - still doesn't help.

Currently using the temporary fix from robsone88 until Apple (or Google) fix this...

Same issue here. I was going crazy at this. Temporary "fix" just messes up everything.

I too am having the same issue after updating to 10.10.1. I also get a "Safari Web Content (Not Responding)" message if I go to Force Quit Applications.

I experimented with Chrome and kind of liked it. Maybe I'm just confused right now, but I'm becoming more and more attracted to Google software. Does God still love me?

Hi Moxom. When the tab is frozen I can use other tabs, but at the end I have to quit Safari and restart it because that tab is lost. This is the reason why I'm pretty sure this is Apple's problem and not Google or Youtube.

That`s not just a problem caused by 10.10.1, also happens under 10.10.0, just tested it.

Solution that worked for me til fix of the Safari bug: Open Safari Preferences >extended, there -mark "show developer Menu"

> then choose Develop > User Agent > Chrome Mac or Firefox Mac.
