Yosemite 10.10.1 causing Safari not to play YouTube videos...

Hi guys/girls,

I installed Yosemite on my iMac (20-inch, Mid 2007) when it was first released and I had no issues whatsoever.

Last night I updated Yosemite to 10.10.1 and now all of a sudden Safari Version 8.0 (10600.1.25.1) won't play any YouTube videos. All I get is a black screen with a little audio clipping.

When using Firefox (v32.1.1) or Chrome (v38.0.2125.122) everything works ok.

Any thoughts?

SOLVED!!!!

After tying many methods, changing user agent was working but not what I wanted. (10h of work to solve this!)

I have experimented with many older versions of flash, but finally I found the one version that doen not cause any problems.

how I did that? stumbled upon a 9to5mac article ant tried the version mentioned there and it worked!!!!

so:

Uninstall flash. then install flash 14.0.0.145.

works flawless now!

Just as a comment. Flash is a power hog. A big drag on battery and CPU which is particularly onerous for laptop users off their power brick. That being said, one does not need Flash to view YouTube video. That's why one can watch Youtube on one's iPhone, video is delivered HTLM5. Chrome browser contains a Flash component. One need not have Flash installed to see view Flash video in Chrome. I don't have flash installed on my MBP. If I run across content which requires Flash, I launch Chrome. We need HTLM5 Anarchy...Job's said as much. Not sure if one still has to opt in to HTLM5, but your can go here to to sign up.

Very bad advice! Older versions of Flash are riddled with security flaws. Any user should always be using the latest version. Secondly, this WAS NOT a Flash player issue. It was a HTML5 player issue which Google (YouTube’s owner) has now apparently resolved.

1. This was NOT an OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 issue

2. This was NOT a Safari 8.0 issue

3. This was NOT an Apple issue

4. This WAS a YouTube issue which has now been fixed. End of story.

Downgrade of Flash Player definitely did not solve your problem, don't be so stubborn, the problem was solved by YouTube and it was just coincidence that your Safari started to play videos after "sorting" Flash Player.

I can bet, if you uninstall Flash Player right now or even update it to the latest version, your Safari will keep playing videos on YouTube. IT IS SORTED BY GOOGLE, not you, buy installing old, vulnerable version of Flash Player on your Mac.
