iPhone 6 Music Volume Drop After Notification

I have an iPhone 6 running iOS 8 (version 8.1). Usually, when I receive a notification while listening to music via headphones, the volume of the song drops slightly for the notification sound to alert me and then returns to normal. I've recently noticed that it often seems to get "stuck" in a low volume and either goes back to normal after waiting 3-10 minutes or when I receive another notification. Has anybody else had this problem? can anyone give suggestions on how to permanently fix this problem? Thanks!

I've only started realizing this "issue" recently, when I tried doing a playback on Apple Music wthout the usual headphones plugged in.. And you can hardly hear anything no to even mention an actual sound being played? I don't know if this would be relevant to this topic but, this issue occurs in basically all the current/active apps I'd have open, i.e whatsapp etc..?

Jumping in late here but this has also been driving me crazy for a couple of years. I get it when connected to my car stereo with my iPhone 5 via Bluetooth. I deduced the same in that there was a relationship between getting notifications (mainly text) and the music fading (expected result) but not going back to the previous volume setting (not expected). My fix was to mute the phone whenever it was connected to the car stereo. Haven't had the problem for months until this morning when I forgot to mute. I got a text message on the phone and the volume stayed down. Of note here is I did updates on my phone (9.2.1) over the weekend and the car stereo had an upgrade within the last 2 weeks so we are running with all up to date software (inc Facebook but I have had notifications disabled for that app for a long time).
