iPhone 6 internet problems (not just WiFi)

Hi guys, I just got a new iPhone 6 (64 GB) two days ago and have been loving it so far. However a problem has come up that prevents me from using my iPhone normally.

Every few hours or so when I try to use the iPhone, it can't connect to the internet. It has no problem connecting to the Wifi network but there is no internet connection. I realize this is a relatively common problem on iOS 8 but things get a little weirder.

When I disable my wifi to try to connect to the internet via LTE, the phone still has no internet connection. Once it loses the connection to the internet over wifi it loses connection to the internet via cellular data as well. I can still send text messages and send/receive calls.

The only way to get it start working again is to reboot the device. I've tried resetting networking data and disabling WiFi Networking as suggested by a bunch of sources but it does not help.

I'm thinking it might be a problem with my router as its been a little problematic in the past 2 weeks. My mom, who got her iPhone 6 (16 GB) on release day has the same problem but her problem started before I got my phone. My dad, who got the same phone on the same day as my mom, does not have this problem.

Just to clarify, when my phone is connected to my home network but cannot connect to the internet, I can connect to the internet on my other devices (iPad, laptop, game consoles) perfectly fine. And my mom and I do not always lose internet connection at the same time.

So far this has only happened when my phone is coming off of sleep. But I have not used it for an extended amount of time so I can't say with certainty it won't happen while I'm using it.

The wifi bar (or cone, whatever that shape is) is at full 3 bars 99% of the time I'm in my room. However, since the first time I got this phone the bar has been flashing from full to 1 bar to LTE back to full within a period of 1 sec every minute or so. Maybe this has something to do with it?

Can anyone tell me what might be the problem and how I can try to fix it? Thanks in advance!

My iPhone 6, although connected to the internet and a mobile service, did not appear to be receiving any data as nothing would load. I went through my wifi settings and everything looked normal, but then I saw a reply about the correlation between this problem and the use of a VPN. I do regularly use a VPN so I decided to check these settings, and this is where I found my solution to the problem. The VPN I use was rapidly attempting to connect to the server but was unable to due to a server error on their side. This is what caused the connectivity problems. If you use a VPN and are experiencing this problem I suggest you:

1. Try loading google.com and if this doesn't work, proceed to your device settings

2. Check your wifi settings and see if they look normal/how they usually look.

3. Try connecting to google.com from another device such as a computer. If you can't then the problem is probably something not related to your iOS device.

4. Enter your VPN settings and find a VPN connection that may be in use. Tap the i that follows after the name of the connection and turn the setting 'Connect On Demand' off.

5. Go back into the general VPN settings and turn the VPN connection off.

6. Try to connect to the internet... it worked for me!

Out of curiosity, do any of you who are having the issue also regularly use VPN?

I recently configured and have been using an OpenVPN account and I'm trying to figure out if the issue could somehow be related. Previously, all my VPN accounts have been either L2TP or PPTP.

I'm going to not use the OpenVPN account for a day or two and see if the issue persists.

I have not used VPN for any thing on my phone - but I still have hangs about every 2-4 days.... but this is new since about a month ago. (I know enough now to turn the thing off and back on...) I suspect that it might be one of the APPS.... Here is what I have used recently (it hung between now and about 24 hours ago...)

App Store

Blu-tooth (linking to a 2014 Toyota)

Wifi (linking to my home and work networks)

iBooks

Mail

Safari

Messages

Phone

Siri

Home&lock Screen

Settings

SudokaMania (I know it is NOT this... I rarely play this and it has hung before.)

I'd like to throw my hat into the ring.

I, too, am having the same problems. I don't use VPN on my phone, I have an AT&T iPhone 6 with 64 GBs. iOS 8.1.2. Once the symptoms start (not able to surf the internet, no emails, WhatsApp doesn't connect... phone calls still works); Rebooting is the only thing to fix it. I can turn off/on wifi, I can turn airplane mode on/off. Nothing works until I reboot it.

Please help!

Having this problem on a 5s running 8.1.3 on both home and work networks. Happens when the phone has been on standby. Turning on and off is the only thing that works. As long as it stays connected--say, playing Pandora all day at work--it doesn't happen. Just started in the past few weeks. Updated software today hoping that would take care of it, but just happened again after putting it aside for dinner.

"Issue presents as total packet loss for all applications connecting to the Internet. E.g. Mail hangs with "Checking for mail..." until giving up. Trying to load sites in Safari yields "server stopped responding".

Once the phone has reached this state, the only way to fix it is to restart. Entering and leaving airplane mode doesn't help. Turning off WiFi (leaving only cellular) and vice-versa do not work, so this is unlikely to be a question of external connectivity. It has occurred on different WiFi networks."

Same exact thing here.

As a bit of an update, my issue would appear to at least somewhat be related to the use of OpenVPN. I was having the issues at least once per day prior to not using OpenVPN for a couple of days. I then went back to using OpenVPN and the problem came back.

That being said, I went ahead and Reset Network Settings on the phone as well as reinstalled OpenVPN. It's now been 2-3 days without issue. The phone has also since been updated to 8.1.3. If the problems comes back, I'll post another update.

For those of you still with the issue, have you tried to Reset Network Settings (Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings)?

I am having a similar problem with my 6Plus. The phone says i'm connected to the internet via WIFI but i cant access the internet. I'm sure my connection is fine since I can connect on other devices. And one interesting twist, with I turn on my VPN, I can access the internet!?!? I suspect that it might be my router settings as I am not seeing this same behavior on other WIFI networks. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

And I forgot to mention, when I turn off WIFI off and go LTE, I have no problems accessing the internet.

I also have the same problem. Seems to happen once every couple of weeks. One time it did happen within a few days of restarting the iPhone 6.

Basically, The iPhone 6 shows it is either connected to a WiFi network with full bars, or it can be connected with 4G.

Problem occurs with no warning: All networking apps cannot connect to update, email cannot update, and safari cannot connect.

I have already determined that it is not a problem with my home internet settings or access devices, considering it also happens in 4G areas. My Modem and Router are having no issues with any other mobile devices or computers in my home. I have tried resetting these network devices, and the iPhone 6 is able to recognize the connection with full bars, yet no success of the iPhone 6 regaining the ability to update apps, email, or connect to Safari.

I can have full WiFi bars, and be standing right in front of the Modem and Router and it will not update apps, email, or connect to Safari.

I have tried turning off the WiFi in the iPhone 6 settings and tried enabling Airplane Mode temporarily to try and reset the internal adapter. turning the WiFi setting back on and disabling Airplane mode allows the iPhone to find and recognize the network and connect. Full WiFi bars.

Still cannot update apps, email, or connect to Safari.

I have tried removing the WiFi information from the iPhone 6 and re-entering it. No errors or issues connecting and recognizing the network. Full WiFi bars. Network connection is successful.

Still cannot update apps, email, or connect to Safari.

The only resolution that will allow apps and email to update and allow Safari to work is to restart the iPhone 6. This seems to be some sort of bug either in the hardware itself or possibly some sort of software bug that is triggering the internal adapter to lose its ability to have full access or a connection to the network.

If replacing the iPhone 6 repeats the same problem, as several others in this forum have experienced with their replacements, then Apple needs to start researching this problem and finding a cause and a fix. It is obviously not an isolated issue if so many other users are posting about the same problem.

I have exactly the same issue. My iPhone 6+ occasionally looses connection to the internet, both cellular and wi-fi always starting when on wi-fi. It shows it is connected, but cannot transfer any data in whatever application. It's not a big deal, because it happens very rarely, but I would be glad if Apple takes it into consideration.

I am having the same problem. 128 gb gold 6+ running V 8.1.3 Works fine at home or wherever on wifi, then if I go out somewhere and have to connect to a 3g/4g network it won't connect. Closing every app, turning off wifi, turning off cellular data, then turning back on again sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. It's only two months old and was fine for the first month. It's been restored and it didn't help either. Was over it after a couple of days of doing the reset thing.

Nope, problem still there with the new iPhone as well. I think the issue happens when the phone is kept inactive (during the night for instance) for a long time, so that the phone goes to sleep. Coming out of sleep, somehow internet connection can not be restored. I suspect there is a low battery effect as well. When the battery is low and/or the phone is inactive for a long time, the problem gets triggered. At least, that's what I suspect.

BTW, I've got 128GB space gray iPhone 6, iOS 8.1.3.

Wishing all the best for everyone...
