I think you don't get the idea. It's not about saving; it's about spending properly. Until I upgrade, I could use the phone for more than 1 day. Sometimes, overusing it by playing or messaging, It would last for 12 to 16 hours. I had the routine to recharge once a day. Just it. After the new iOS8.1.2, I can't leave my home without the recharger because in the noon I should recharge it. I have to recharge now 2 or 3 times a day, since this new upgrade.

hey =D

So, I took some steps:

1- Reset all network settings. Nothing has changed.
2- Reset all the settings. Nothing has changed.
3- My las step was making a backup and then restore the device using itunes.
4- I've noticed apple this mourning, and they sent me something in my e-mail to click and back to them with some information about the phone. The told me that, by that diagnostics there was nothing wrong.

5- I am here, and its battery life still dropping 5% each 10 minutes

thanks for the answers =D

OK.... I've been experiencing the same extreme battery loss as everyone else since 8.1.2 upgrade over weekend. My IPhone 4s was just fine until the upgrade. Since the battery did not have issues before, I don't believe the hype about 'get a new battery'.

BUT...I full-charged it to 100% at 1:05pm and it's more than 2 hours later and I'm still at 100%. I'm not using it (standby) but at least the battery charge is not dropping rapidly either. But, I had to turn a lot of features off to save the battery.

Turned off WiFi, bluetooth, cellular data, background app refresh and location services. I guess I'll just have to turn those back on if I need to use it. This is kind of a crappy alternative but at least it will be there when I need it. Being shackled to a cell phone charger or a totally dead phone is much worse....

Apple - Fix please your software....

Since you've restored the phone without backup what I would do next is take the phone down to its bare bones including deleting all apps. Go through every setting there possibly is and turn off everything. The idea is to eliminate anything that might be using CPU cycles which includes background refresh, push notifications, email, even turning off cellular and wifi. Charge the phone up over night and test the phone the next day and see how much the battery drains. If its the OS then you likely won't see much improvement. If the battery performance improves however and appears to be what it should be then start turning things on bit by bit and reinstalling apps one by one. The idea is to find the culprit(s) causing that is batteries to drain fast. I should also mention that when you reinstall the apps download them again rather than from a backup in case one of them is corrupt. Good luck with it.

Apple just does not care, they know the problem but they can't fix it and they don't come with a solution.

It's just ridiculous to ask people to turn of all the utility's on your phone, It's like buying a Ferrari that after a motor management update doesn't go faster then 50 mph and then ferrari tells you to turn off the Radio, Airco and Nav and then you can go up to 80 mph. Dear apple, I want my iphone to go 200 mph again!!!

But what I think is the worst, Apple and his community laughed at Microsoft for 30 years, but now their software is worse then windows 3.11

The problem is the APPLE IOS, I did all that and after a factory reset without installing anything it drains in 4 hours to 0% in standby.

Their is no solution besides Apple hiring some people from Microsoft to solve the problems, APPLE and IOS are worse then Microsofts windwos 3.11 and Vista together, it's a joke and the worse thing is that apple acts like the problem does not exist, the don't mention the problem at all.

Like i say, APPLE BECAME WORSE THEN MICROSOFT HAS EVER BEEN

I would just suggest to shut down you phone, leave it off for a few minutes, then power it back on and see if notice the same heating and battery loss (give it a few days). After this, I would go to an apple store so they can run some diagnostics.

P.S. If you want to turn off background app refresh (you may not notice, but apps are working in the background), go to Settings > General > Background App Refresh > uncheck any apps you want, and as you can see in the description of the refresh page it says that it can preserve battery life. You might be surprised by all the apps on that list!

Hope I can help!

I have the same problem here, the battery goes flat after about 3-4 hours. Tried all the proposed fixes and did a clean re-install nothing really helps. Until the 19th December it was possible to downgrade to 8.1.1 but now Apple doesn't sign this ipsw file anymore so it's no longer possible.

A good move from Apple would be to offer extended time for the downgrade so one at least could get a working phone back. 😠

Hi All,

Ok, before I start, please, if you are new to reading this thread or feel you have some idea about ways to save battery life, I, like many others here, have been their and done them all! - please see my earlier comments in this thread before offering ideas. Sorry, not trying to offend or being ungrateful.

Anyway, this is about an alternative way of letting our source of displeasure - Apple, know that we have phones that since being upgraded to 8.1.2 have zero potential - JUST LIKE THEIR BATTERIES WHEN RUNNING ON 8.1.2 ! lol.

Go to settings/privacy/diagnostics & usage. Ensure its set to send automatically, then let the battery go flat a couple of times from a full charge.

The phone will then list and sends crash reports for a low battery log, which includes the appalling awake and sleep times we are all suddenly experiencing.

I have the iPhone 5 and my battery is draining at phenomenal speeds. Anytime I use anything internet related it drops about 2 percent per minute. If I have under 50% left on battery and try to use my camera, it shuts off after the 1st picture and then when I try to turn it back on, it says I have no battery left. I have to plug it in to get it to turn on. I have completely restored my phone as new, only put some of my apps back on, turned off background app refresh and nothing has helped. I cannot go a full day at work without having to charge my phone by early afternoon. And that's only using it on breaks. Yesterday, I decided to video our Christmas. I set up my iPhone 4 and my iPhone 5 and turned them on. Both started at 100%. After 20 minutes of video, the iPhone 4 was at 87% and iPhone 5 was at 44%. iPhone 4 has version 7.1.2 and iPhone 5 has version 8.1.2. Please, please help!
