iPhone 6 64 GB here. Same performance problem as everyone else. I took mine to a genius bar. The tech told me there is NO official fix for this issue. Replacing the screen only works sometimes so they have been instructed not to replace the screen and proclaim it "fixed". The only thing they can offer is a replacement. I'd say that makes this a pretty serious internal hardware fault. Since it is now out of warranty I am less than impressed that Apple is unable to fix a 1 year old product.

I have an iPhone 6+, I've had it since Jan 2015. Everything was fine until about 3 months ago. I noticed the phone locking up, just switched it down, open it up again, fine. Then it was doing it more often . Had to power it down and turn it on again. Since the last three updates 10.9.2 to 10.9.5 its started doing what has been described elsewhere in this thread. Its as if someone is trying to remotely control your phone but doing random things and its making the phone unusable. I have it making FaceTime calls on its own, opening apps up all by itself, browsing links and just behaving like its possessed . I haven't been to an Apple store yet but from reading this thread I don't hold up much hope in them helping me fix this issue. Has anyone had any joy getting this to stop at all.

Oh I did have a screen protector on it but I replaced it with a new one just in case I thought it may have been messing with the touchscreen as it was quite scratched . It still does it with a brand new protector on it.

I restored the phone to factory settings twice and it kept happening. I had to send 2 phones back and did a restore from a previous version in order for it to work. This was after updating to the new IOS. My recommendation would be to wipe the phone to factory and do a non-recent backup as it appears as though my most recent backups were buggy.

Hope this helps because it is sooooo annoying when this happens.

I've had the same issue for the past month. I'm going through a restore process at the moment to see if it helps with the issue.

It seems to have started happening after the upgrade to iOS 10, having to use the home button to access the phone. Personally, I think the constant pressing of the home button is effecting the mechanism of the phones touch pad. My phones 5C, so it doesn't have the finger print tech built in. I'm not sure whether the finger print phones need home button to be physically pressed, but pressing it will cause wear, most moving parts do.

I would suggest, if you don't want to go through the hassle of a full restore and you want to show it off as a party trick, Drag your apps into groups. The phantom finger only seems to press once or twice sporadically. If your apps are grouped, it give the phantom finger less chance of pressing anything important to activate it. Also make sure the apps are grouped at the top of the screen.

Unfortunately, the keyboard will sit along the bottom of the screen, portrait or landscape, so the phantom finger will inevitably start pressing keys. If you've not made your texts private (text is its favourite haunt), read them on screen. Open the phone and leave it for a short while (15 seconds) before replying.

I'll add a comment after I've restored to let you know if its corrected the issue, but i doubt it will.

I just hope the phantom finger doesn't start typing in the wrong lock code to many times as this will lock my phone and clear the data ! Then I might think about sorting a solicitor to speak to Apple.

I'm back! And it seems to have been a success!

I restored my 5C to factory setting and treated like new a phone, not restoring the junk that was previously on it, going through each app and signing back into ever account I have (I lost count at 45).

It seems to have fixed the phantom-finger/touch disease and even the battery seems to keep its charge!

So if you decide to restore your phone, do it, but don't restore it with a backup. Start fresh!

You might need a day off work to complete the task though. In all fairness, these smart phones are like a part of our being nowadays, so these manufacturers should be issuing us with sick notes for days off work when their devices fail... just a thought

That was short lived! It seems that the problem has returned, less than 12 hours after the restore. I've just used my phone and after entering the code to unlock, the screen started swiping back and forth. When it calmed down, I activated iMessenger and to send an emoji reply and numerous other emoji's appeared without me touching the screen. The emojis were no where near each other either!

Well judging by the Samsung news, I wouldn't be getting one of them and now this problem, I don't think Apple can be trusted if they can't even admit the issue. I think I'll dust off my only Nokia 6210
