IOS 8.2 update caused my iMessage to stop working

I just updated my iPhone 4S to IOS 8.2 today, March 9th, and now my iMessage doesn't work. It says it's, "waiting for activation". I can't send or receive texts with iMessage but standard SMS texts seem to work fine. Did this happen to anyone else after updating? If so, did anyone fix it? I've already tried the basic trouble shooting solutions like restarting, hard rebooting, turning my iMessage on and off, resetting my network settings, etc...

Have you tried Reset all settings? That may fix the problem if not restoring with a computer would be a good option.

I went to the Apple store in Woodbridge, VA over the weekend.

The fix, download the update from iTunes. It is possible doing the update off wi-fi is what is causing issues. Everything is good now.

However, I lost over 2 years of text messages over this update through this method. I switched internet providers earlier in the month, so maybe had something to do with it as well.

I have the exact same issue. I update my iphone 5 yesterday and it seemed to go through OK . But when I open an existing message from a contact it takes over 20 secs to open, when it does it has no history shown ( only the last message received from each contact) , once the actual contact sends me a new message I can then see the history of previous messages ( only last 2-3 days however and limited to the contact). This is affecting both iMessage and SMS messages. I dont have any trouble sending messages myself. I have tried all the advisce shown in previous threads including reset settings etc, facetime and iMessage (on and off ) reboot numerous times blah blah, But it is still not working. My iMessage and Facetime are shown as activated. I have an Ipad which is on the same account as my Iphone. The Ipad however has NOT been updated to 8.2 and continues to work fine, with a full history of messages.

This is clearly an issue with the 8.2 update and should be addressed by Apple quickly as it’s not just a nuisance - being able to review previous messages is an essential part of owning a mobile phone. . Extremely poor show, and in my view caused by an attempt to gain market share on a new watch release you have successfully managed to screw up a lot of your existing customers. Cou amount of missing feedback from yourself on your website in regards to these issues is alarming.

Extremely annoyed!!!

ok so here's the update on this sage , I tried everything suggested on here, but nothing worked at all . Every time I updated to 8.2 the message problem was there. Even after returning to factory settings FULLY . Eventually I downloaded 8.1.3 from the firmware site ( cdma global version ) and returned the entire phone back to 8.1.3 , needless to say it would not recover the 8.2 backup. I had an old iTunes back up ( 6 weeks old ) and used that to recover the phone .

The state now is that the phone is working perfectly on 813 and all that I have lost is six weeks of messages and photographs. :-( . It's obvious there is a serious problem with version 8.2 and the sooner it is rectified the better, I'm know getting a pop-up telling me that there is a new version and I should update to it (8.2) and for the benefit of doubt ! There is not a snowballs chance in **** thats happening ! .

Apple need to fix this terrible update and advice on the comments that IT HAS RECTIFIED this specific bug to ensure its software is compliant, tested and for for purpose.

I ended up fixing everything.

Turns out, 2 Step Auth required some additional configurations. Ensure you have created an app specific password for "Messages" and apply that to all your devices (Mac, iPhone, iPad etc.). Once everything is verified, on your iPhone go to Settings -> Messages and re-enable your iPhone Text Messaging Forwarding to all devices.

Not sure if 8.2 enforces App specific passwords while using 2-Step, but regardless, you should be doing this anyway.

When I went to the Apple store, they did a restore straight from iTunes and it worked, BUT I lost 2 1/2 years of text messages. I backup everything to the cloud nightly, so my contacts/pics that matched the contacts stayed intact, but the pics were cleared from my phone for the most part. I don't take that many pictures on my cell (digital cameras are 100 times better) so that wasn't a big loss, but the texts were.

I think it was the wi-fi that screwed it up to be honest.
