Gmail emails are delayed or not sending to iCloud

A very strange issue started out of the blue a couple of days ago. I have my gmail account forwarding to my iCloud (me.com). My friend asked me if I got his email the other day, never went through. After some testing I found out that all of a sudden Gmail messages are not being forwarded or sent to my iCloud. Some are even bouncing back. Any idea what the problem might be? Why would it start out of the blue?

I received the same message and my emails are delayed. Many emails are coming in 12 hours to 2 days late.

This is the message the sender receieved:

This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification

THIS IS A WARNING MESSAGE ONLY.

YOU DO NOT NEED TO RESEND YOUR MESSAGE.

Delivery to the following recipient has been delayed:

Message will be retried for 2 more day(s)

Technical details of temporary failure:

Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the server for the recipient domain me.com by mx2.mail.icloud.com. [17.172.34.11].

What can be done?

I turned my forwarding in gmail back on this morning. I sent about 12 emails all of which were cc'd to my mac address. One came through immediately. The others are still MIA. I do hope Apple contacts me about this issue today.

I found another thread from about a month ago. Same problem. Seems like it was resolved for a while, then started up again. Pam

It's even worse today more than anything else. Emails from Gmail are still trickling through despite turning off forwarding in Gmail plus I'm getting lots of 'Mail Sender Failure Notification' emails in Gmail now saying that the problem seems to lie with the server on Apple's side after reading all that technical jargon in those failure emails.

***UPDATE***

Just got off the phone with Apple. They are very aware of the issue and working on fixing it. They said that everyone who is having this issue should call and report this. They'll ask you for some info that will help them. They tech said specifically that the more people that call, the easier it will be to get a fix. He passed all my info along to engineering and said they are working to resolve this ASAP. Finally, gave a timetable of 24 hours, but also said to call back with a case # he gave me if it's not working by then and I will be connected to a senior advisor.

In short, they are aware of the issue, working on fixing it, and ask that everyone experiencing this problem call in.

Hi, I just spent a highly frustrating hour on the phone with apple support. First, I was told they were unaware there was a problem. Then I was told my device was off warranty "but they would make an exception". Then I was escalated to Device Support, who tried to blame GMail. After being challenged that the rejection code was coming from Apple servers, I was then told that "he didn't know how the server could reject traffic from only one incoming mail server". We then discussed flagging ISP's as Junk, rejecting traffic from servers, etc. The call ended when he informed me that he was unable to refer me to anyone on the software side since "they don't take incoming calls" and reiterated that this problem was new to them. He didn't have a response when I mentioned that there are >6 threads, spanning 5 days, relating to this problem

Wholly unsatisfying and frustrating. Any ideas what the best route to complain is and how to bring some pressure to bear?

Just made my call as suggested by you guys above. Thanks for whoever provided the 1-800-number.

Here's the dealio -

- They are fully aware of the situation and are working to resolve it.

- Temporary fix - turn forwarding off on Gmail (which I've done thanks to Pam's suggestion...why I didn't think of that!) 😝

- Give it 24 hours and turn forwarding back on tomorrow.

- If it's still not working by tomorrow, call back in to discuss using the case number that was sent to you via email.

To the person above that encountered problems when they called, I simply told them about this ongoing thread (which my rep said is actually looked at by the higher-ups).

She said the more people call, the better because that's how they know there's a problem. Said it wasn't nationwide yet...

Well I have been having this problem for days, as others have said, my wife has been emailing me from her gmail account (on her Mac) and only in the last few days has been getting messages saying the email could not be delivered.

Im getting some messages immediately from her and others are never arriving. We wonder if its to do with if she is on the same ISP as when she sends via her phone ISP they seem to arrive immediately... almost as if Apple is looking at the route and holding them in limbo because they come from the same household.... odd
