A follow up question to Introducing Apple Recommends, Manage Subscriptions, and This Helped Me

In Introducing Apple Recommends, Manage Subscriptions, and This Helped Me it was written

Now anyone can click "This helped me" to say thanks to helpful members. When several people mark the same post, it will earn a gold star and appear at the top of the discussion, so it’s easier for others to find. The poster will also earn five reputation points for a job well done.

Does anyone know (or is it written anywhere) just how many is 'serveral'? Is it decided on the fly? Or does it depend on the phase of the moon?

Will the points be awarded to the poster only once, or if say 100 people mark it as helpful will more then 5 points be awarded?

Sounds like a really good system but it seems that a bit more thought should have gone into it, no? Or at least the explanation could be clearer.

Ciao.

(Another question) Can the original post (this one) get marked as helpful also? Imagine earning points for posting :-)

A test to see f the helpful shows up on your own post.

Seems it does. Will this count toward the 'several' needed to get the points?

Hi GeoCo,

Only the 'powers that be' (the moderators/hosts) know how many 'helps' deserve some extra points. Wait until the dust settles and we will know more.

As to spam posts, those are usually noticed and reported. Sometimes spam arrives faster than the 'powers that be' (the moderators/hosts) can delete it, even in this day-and-age.

The 'powers that be' (the moderators/hosts) are busy updating the 'new look' forums, deleting spam, ensuring that posts conform to the Terms of Use, and protecting users who post personal information.

Regards,

Ian.

Sorry, but I'm glad it's gone (the like button) - this isn't grade school; it's a technical forum. As long as the answer is technically correct, there is no need to "like" it (the same applies to points as far as I'm concerned and the people hinting as to how to get them). I don't need "likes" or points to know exactly what I am knowledgeable about and/or good at - and what I'm not. Thank goodness this is not Facebook or some other social media site - at least not yet, although we seem to be heading that way. If we reach that point complete with constant drivel about off topic this and that, I will find a different (worthy) cause to volunteer with.

ASC is nothing like Facebook

We shall agree to disagree - maybe not quite yet, but I believe it's headed that way; for one thing, the hosts appear to allow more and more irrelevant/annoying off topic chit chat which would have been removed in the previous "administration". If the answer to a question is presented in a polite, factual manner (and is correct), a "thank you" would be nice and more appropriate among adults than "grading" your post. It is not my place in life to grade other human beings' - who are total strangers - replies in a public online forum (although I will post a correction if I know that the answer is incorrect so there is no confusion for the OP). If I wanted such a conversation/setting, I would post on a social media site, but certainly not in an open public technical forum (except for the lounge of course), which I do not do as I prefer a real (live) dialogue with friends.
