the new iOS 8.3 - Mail Connection Issues

Since my husband and I updated to the new 8.3 our emails are not working. We get an error message that says:

Cannot Get Mail. The connection to the server failed.

We use Yahoo, Gmail and Outlook. Tried to have a chat with apple this morning however they kept trying to tell me it was my phone...anyone else encountering this issue all the sudden??

I've tried everything and my iPhone 5 device will not connect to my Yahoo email. I guess we have to wait until apple sends an update on 4/10/15... I use Yahoo for my main email, gmail still works fine but the Yahoo account is not accessible from the phone. I can access it from my Mac... so that tells me the iOS 8.3 update initiated the issue.

I think I just fixed this issue. As opposed to being lazy like last time Apple came out with an update and I had this exact issue,

I went into my mail settings and turned off each mail account (mail, contacts, calendar, and reminder), and then i actually deleted my Exchange account (not sure if this was required).

  • Added my exchange account back on
  • Checked mail
  • Turned a mail account back on
  • Checked mail
  • Turned another mail account back on
  • Checked mail

I did this to see which account was the dodgy account. Needless to say, I think to turn off my accounts and back on fixed the issue.

Some applications like outlook.com (hotmail, live.com), gmail, and yahoo use two-form authentication. Since the iOS mail app has no way to provide the additional on-demand security code for a two-step authentication, you'll need to setup a special application password (see this article for info on Microsoft's version). http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/app-passwords-two-step-verification
Google and Yahoo have similar implementations. Until this recent iOS update, my outlook.com account worked just fine using my standard old password. It's possible the new update is now enforcing those rules more strictly. It was simple to remove and re-add the account, after setting up a special password at account.live.com. Use that password instead of the one you would normally use on the outlook.com website.

This might not be the case for everyone, but I hope it helps some of you.
