after 10.2 update- imported clips displaying black

I downloaded all updates for FCP, compressor, and system updates. Currently running a brand new Mac Pro, 32GB RAM, dual GPUs, the whole 9 yards. I am running my FCP library from a Caldigit 3 drive raid array, in raid 0. After updating to 10.2, all of my camera clips show only black, no video, but i have audio.

There are no warnings at all in any of my projects or events, the clips are just black, with working audio. I was successful in updating the libraries when i updated FCP to 10.2. The clips I have are recorded from a Panasonic AG-AC160, recorded AVCHD, 1080p24. Any ideas?!

I can skim through audio, and the thumbnails appear for each clip in the events browser, but when i play them, All i get is audio, with a black screen in the viewer. They were working fine yesterday, and the only thing I changed was the 10.2 update. I'm stumped!

Mac Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.3), FCP 10.2

I also have an AF100. It seems as if the new FCP update has messed up the ability to import certain codecs (AVCHD). A work around is to import the files via the Photos App (they will still be unviewable) then export to the desktop and drop into Compressor. I'm hoping Apple is reading this thread and fixes the problem ASAP as it is a major god **** flaw! Sheesh.

This was VERY helpful! Reading this information, I decided to convert my 1920 x 1080 30p project to 1280 x 720 (still 30p, using the project info window). While my thumbnails were still black, the video previewed correctly and I was finally able to share my project as a master file.

Hey! Your post may be very helpful as well; when you say convert your project to 1280x720, do you mean that all you had to do was change the timeline/project settings to 720p30 and the clips playback and export correctly? I'm just trying to make sure it's really clear because that may be an important workaround for those in a bind.

Thanks for chiming in!

Yes, I selected the project in the clip browser. Its project info should show in the Inspector window. I clicked on "Modify Settings" and then changed from 1920x1080 to 1280x720. I'm actually at 29.97p but I was having the same difficulty as everyone else with my AVCHD files from our af100 prior to trying this. As you can see in the screenshot, the thumbnail still doesn't show up in the timeline, but the video previews correctly (no black! yes!) and it exports (I could not export this project previously after upgrading to 10.2...so frustrating!).

Brilliant sleuthing guys. 😎

I'm an AF100 user too, and experiencing the same issues.

I tried the work-around of changing the project settings to 720p but that didn't work for me.

But I'm shooting my stuff at 25p (Australia).

Please keep chiming in with information from your tests.

I'm going to test importing some different frame rates and resolutions from my AF100 and will post my results.
