Pro Video Format 2.0.1 ask me to update it in MAS repeatedly in loop

I was able to fix this by downloading the update from Apple Support, opening the package file with Pacifist, selecting the top-level item, and hitting the Install button. Pacifist installed it perfectly, and the update notices disappeared.

I'm not sure what the problem was, but I noticed that the update contained Application Support files for Compressor that Apple's Installer did not install. In fact, the Installer removed the Compressor folder when I created one!

I think maybe Apple got all the file and folder permissions wrong too, because after installing with either the Apple Installer or Pacifist, Disk Utility had a lot of permissions clean-up to do.

Just called Apple support... here is the official fix.

1) Move all files from /Library/QuickTime/ to a temp older on desktop

2) Open AppStore and download/install update

3) Reboot

4) Copy any missing files from temp folder on desktop to /Library/QuickTime. For me this was 1 file, AppleMPEG2Codec.component.

Based upon the information here, I downloaded the ProVideo Codecs, moved all items out of /Library/QuickTime and rand the installer. Afterward I moved the missing components back into /Library/QuickTime and retested the Updates. This resolved the issue for me. Looking at the components that were installed, I believe it would only be necessary to remove the following items:

AppleAVCIntraCodec.component

AppleHDVCodec.component

AppleIntermediateCodec.component

AppleMXFImport.component

AppleProResCodec.component

DVCPROHDCodec.component

FCP Uncompressed 422.component

IMXCodec.component

I used the link from another submission to download: Pro Video Formats 2.0.1

Fixed it by installing Pacifist,

Download the .dmg from Apple for the ProVideo update,

install with Pacifist,

Problem solved.

Download the installer package from Apple and then use Pacifist to install it.

I sent Apple a bug report about the install loop

I tried the above. When i click on install it says "items already exist do you want to replace it" and I click on the blue button many times and finally gave up and cancelled the extraction. I have only installed once from App Store. I am certainly doing something wrong, sorry for my ignorance, what exactly did you mean "the top level PKG" that will say the pkg that is the first in the row ?

That fix also solved the Safari persistent crash issue.

Same problem with Pro Video 2.0.1 updates here on my IMAC, went through with tech support for an hour last night and could not resolve. Tech taking to engineering and will email findings in a day or two. System would not allow me to hide the update either. Downloaded update directly from Pro Video site and no resolution to update showing again. Just ignoring for now.

gah problem came back for me today. Did Apple recommended fix and had to restore 2 files. Didn't work. Did Apple recommended fix again and only had to restore 1 file. Worked. Then used XCode's plist editor to delete all the old install entries for the repeated installs. (file given in another post, but had to show hidden files to see it).

The problem with the official Apple fix is that it does not include all the files and folders that are included in the update. At least for some users, there are also files to be installed in Application Support and in the System Library (as opposed to the regular Library). The greatest problem I noticed was with the Compressor folder in Application Support, which the Apple Installer actually trashed instead of updating with its included files. Installing with Pacifist took care of all this.

In regard to permissions: Yes, after installing with Pacifist, there were a number of permissions that had to be fixed with Disk Utility. But that was also true after first trying to install with the Apple Installer. In other words, the incorrect permissions are in Apple's update, and are no fault of Pacifist. Also, there were NO ACLs on my system after installing with Pacifist, so the user who found those had probably gotten them somewhere else.

As for the dates on the files: Look at version numbers, not creation dates. If there's an older date, then it's probably because Pacifist is only updating the files that need it.

Several days after installing with Pacifist, I'm experiencing zero problems. For all of you spending loads of time with Apple Support with no resolution, you might try the easy way!

I used Pacifist to install Quicktime 7.3.1 many years ago, great app!

The above method did not work for me. I had already done the software update and it was appearing again as an available update. After rebooting all of the files were there, none were missing, and the App Store is still listing the update as available. Time to try the Pacifist method, I guess.
