Opening Plan app on my apple watch, show me only a grid and no map !
Watch Sport 42mm, iOS 8.3
Unbelievable that this problem still occurs almost 2 years after this thread started. What worked for me was unpairing (including backup and resetting the watch) and repairing the watch.
For those who did not do that before (like me): No worries, your watch (esp. settings, apps, watchfaces) will be like before. Steps are described on https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204568.
The other solutions above like doing a simple or nearby search did not work for me.
Same here : Apple Watch 42 mm, Watch OS 1.0 and 1.0.1, iPhone 6 Plus with iOS 8.3
Tried everything mentioned here.
NO WAY I'm restoring my iPhone. That would be a shame!
This bug is among many others I found...
Ok so I got on the chat with Apple support regarding the map issue, after some initial testing i got transferred to a senior advisor. The senior advisor got me to do some more tests and started a diagnostic session too. The senior advisor then said the case will be escalated to the Site Support Engineering Team.
It should take 2-3 working days (so on may 27th at most because of the monday holiday) i should hear from them. In the meantime i will keep using the watch (minus the map app).
It took about an hour of chat session to go through all this.
Will post back next week on how it got resolved.
I had the same thing this morning. Escalated etc... They said it could either be a hardware issue, therefore the Watch might need to replaced or a Software issue which may require a firmware update once they work out a fix...
Will hear from them on may 27th at most, i went from basic support to senior advisor and now i'm at the Site Support Engineering Team level.
I'm guessing from seeing this thread that it will probably end up as a fix in software 1.02
for me it's not a hardware issue since my watch already worked perfectly until i started with a brand new iphone install without any backup data.
I Have same problem tired all the solutions presented with a apple care person. Running latest watch 1.0.1. iOS 8.3 on a iPhone 5s. This is weird. Cannot get appointment until Tuesday. If anyone gets an appointment sooner please report back.
Same here. Have done factory reset on watch, re-paired, restarted phone etc etc. can't see how it can be a hardware issue as it worked fine before the 1.0.1 update.
Any news from anywhere would be much appreciated!
Same here.... Received watch yesterday (22nd).
Encountered the issue whilst learning how to use the watch. Here are the steps that I went through, so you guys know what to try or not:
1. Turned watch off and back on, no joy
2. Turned phone off, then back on, no joy
3. Tried a reset on phone (Holding Power and Home for a few seconds), no joy
4. Unpaired using app on phone, re-paired, using the new watch option, not restore from backup..... No Joy
5. Left everything alone and went to sleep, hoping it would fix itself, overnight..... no joy, but I did wake up with renewed enthusiasm
6. Turned off phone....reset using function on watch. Turned on phone, re-paired using latest back up option..... no joy
7. Plugged phone into iTunes, performed a complete backup, then restored phone in iTunes using the latest backup option. You are forced to re-pair the watch upon completion, so this time I chose the set up as a new watch function and install all available apps. I am still waiting for all apps to install, however with the core apps installed, it would appear that the issue still persists. Using the watch Siri function I asked "Where Am I", my location is reported correctly but a map will not load, just a spinning circle of spheres
I will now wait to see if this changes once all apps are installed as there could be a heavy load on BT connection whilst apps are still installing, however my enthusiasm has now lowered again.....maybe a short nap? :-)
Looks like this could be software / hardware bug...... Now picking up courage to call Apple :-(
The more people call Apple, the higher they raise the priority to fix this issue.
Having the same problem, had the watch less than 12 hours. Running 1.0,1 - Watch will find data about a trip but not show map.
good to see peoples comments on this issue. Hopfully they will solve this issue quickly if enough people highlight this as a major issue to them.
Same with me. I have raised a support case, and Apple said that they are now aware of the general problem and this is going to engineering. Promised to provide me with an update when they know more - likely to be Tuesday.
Nice work guys! Glad to hear that Maps was previously working as that indicates that this is a software rather than hardware issue. Hopefully they will patch it quickly............ Just hope I do not get lost :-)
You shouldn't get lost as directions work just fine - so it'll say "turn left" etc with an arrow, but you just can't see the actual map. When cycling round London I found the screen with the arrow much more useful than the map.
I am in live chat with Apple as we speak.
