No sound or haptic for notifications or alarms

This was working fine yesterday, but today I realized I no longer was receiving sound/haptic alerts. It became more obvious when I set an alarm and nothing happened except for the message on the screen. I checked to see if the volume/vibration level was turned down, if it was in silent mode, or in “do not disturb” mode. The iPhone was locked, so notifications were not being directed there.

I called Apple Support and they verified I checked everything. They suggested turning the watch off and on and it then worked (doh… that is the first thing I would do on another device! I guess I still don’t think about turning off a watch!). It seems there may be a bug in this 1.0 software/hardware (what a shock!).

I write this here to see if this is a common issue, or if I was just lucky. Please respond if you experienced this and if turning off the watch cured the problem.

Oh my god. Thank you.

I’m deaf and this watch has been infuriating to say the least and making me angry for the past two weeks. Like, I would love to be able to wake up and go to work on time, Apple.

This has solved it for the time being, but you’re correct that this shouldn’t be happening. I’m still reporting as feedback that clearly something between iOS 11 and wiOs 4 isn’t jiving.

You, however, are a god. Thank you, Jason!

Also - so I’m not double posting - I just found something out: if you don’t enable Watch App > clock > “push alerts from iPhone” option, the haptic feedback in the alarms app starts to work again.

So much time wasted on unpairing and re-pairing and it was such a simple fix...

I have occasionally set a "1 minute" timer to keep checking to see if it is working. So far, so good, but it's only been a few hours.

My guess is that there will more than one software update in the coming months. Can't complain too much... we're the ones who wanted it on day one! Ya have to expect some imperfection, especially on a completely new platform.

I tried resetting my phone, unpairing the watch and everything. I still sometimes get a hepatic with sound alert sometimes just hepatic, and most times nothing at all.. Pretty frustrating. Being a pretty busy person, I relied on my Pebble to vibrate to alert me of new notifications which it did perfectly. I know this a new product but you'd think they'd work out at least this big, which is the pirpose most people will by the watch. pretty irritating, and if this isn't addressed with an update within a week, this is going back

Cmodman:

This probably isn't your specific issue, but some people may not realize that the Watch doesn't get notifications if the phone is unlocked. As I understand it, the alerts just go straight to the phone if it is unlocked and no alert will appear on the Watch. Not sure if this is ideal, but that is the design.

This could be the source of the problem for some people.

Same problem. I set imessage to custom and enabled haptic, so I get those. But, I get absolutely no other notifications including ones I have enabled through the watch app. Confirmed phone screen is off, so its not because I'm actively looking at my phone. Super annoying, and defeats the purpose of notifications if I have to actively look for the red dot. Currently, other than imessage (and even that seems spotty), I get absolutely no other notification feedback other than the red dot.

So here's an idea that has worked for 1 email so far. email and texts display on my car nav screen but each time I connect via Bluetooth I have to go into mail notifications and change the number of items to display. If I don't do that they aren't displayed in my car but once I do they are. Have no idea why but it works so I do it.

I Just did that and the next email that came in worked on the watch. Try it and see if it makes a difference.
