new entries revert to "new event"

Just within the last few days, Calendar has begun consistently misbehaving. I create a new event, assign it to a calendar, fill in information such as time and notes. I close the editing window, the new title displays (I'm using Month View) for just a second, and then it reverts to "New Event," and everything I've entered is lost. Oddly, when I enter all the information a second time, it always seems to stay.

As far as I know, I haven't made any changes to my OS (10.9.5) or to Calendar (7.0), neither via their settings nor any other way. FYI, I'm using iCloud to sync between the calendars on my MBPro and my iPhone (4S, running 7.1.2).

So I started having this problem 6 days ago and when I called Apple, the 1st thing the rep had me do was re-install my operating system, mavericks, which i really did not want to do. It didn't help a thing. I next got a senior advisor who had me upload a bunch of files to apple and then wanted me to give apple permission to use my iCloud account to trouble shoot - which I did not do. I haven't heard a thing since. WTH!!

Just adding that this is happening to me too and only started about 2-3 weeks ago. I too believe it is to do with iCal updating/syncing. I would also like to add that this is getting extremely frustrating as I have events that I now have no idea what they are referring to! Yes, the workaround of creating the event, letting it save, THEN adding in the details works, but we shouldn't have to be doing a workaround for something that has been working fine for years. 😠

I agree this is annoying, but I want to point out that the ONLY detail you can't seem to safely enter into the event window is assigning it to a non-default calendar. If you delay that one step until after you've closed the window, all the other details you may have entered (date, time, URL, notes, etc.) are preserved, as far as I can tell. And using the contextual menu pull-down menu is not any more trouble than selecting the calendar from the editing window itself.

If I'm wrong about that, I hope somebody will put their different experience on record.

Me Again.

I have once again been speaking with Apple Tech in the UK and they still have not found a way of resolving this issue. I was amazed that they hadn't even looked on here, this forum, to see if others were having a similar issue. It seems Apple DO NOT look on these forums so may i suggest that every one of us phone the helplines and pester the **** out of them.

The only solution Apple have offered us is to upgrade to Yosemite which is not possible as we have software which is not compatible with that OS

RING THE HELPLINES. They do not know how to fix this yet but reinstalling your OS does not fix it or your diaries. If this does not get a result I will be contacting trading standards and the press.

Everyone. While this still is a legitimate problem and deserves attention, there is a workaround graciously provided by hueyo that will help for now.

Create the appointment in one's default calendar and let it save. Change the entry to the correct calendar in the contextual menu. Done.

If this is used, no one should be missing their appointments. No one should find Calendar 'impossible to use'. It's not fixed -- and it should be -- but it's not the end of the world, nor does it make Calendar unusable.

rigelusesapple -- this workaround does NOT work for me. Same problem still occurs. As soon as I close out of the default calendar, it reverts to New Event. No time to save in a different calendar.

ALso, in the past few days, I've started losing info that I input into LONG-EXISTING entries. e.g. I go to an event that I entered three months ago. I change something. Two seconds later, those changes are gone.

SO, for some of us there IS NO WORKAROUND.

So it's been a week since I last talked and opened a case with a senior advisor and after no follow ups from apple I left him 2 voicemails. No response. So I now called apple and told them that under my extended apple care, I wanted to return my computer bc the software(this problem) is not functioning properly - even after they had me replace the op system. The new senior advisor had me send some more logs and promised a response in a few hours. Nothing yet on the response or returning the computer......

Re: SPSPSP

Huh! I wonder if it's a difference of some sort (OS, version of Calendar, etc.) or I'm not describing it clearly. (Hmn, maybe making a video . . .)

To make sure I'm clear, this is what you're doing, yes?

  1. Click and drag on the calendar (I use Week View for this, but others might be possible) for the correct times for the event. This should open the pop-up menu for editing the event.
  2. Add a name (we'll call it Event Foo as an example), location, tweak the times if you need to, etc. Close out of the pop-up menu; I usually do this by single clicking outside of it.
  3. After about a second to let it save, double-click on the Event Foo in the default calendar so the pop-up window opens again. Single click on the color block in the upper right hand corner, and use the drop-down menu to change the calendar. Single click outside the pop-up menu overall.

My experience is that this leaves me with an Event Foo, at the right times and with the right data, in the correct calendar. This is what's not working for you?
