Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

How do i get rid of malware and adware for my macbook?

My younger cousin took my computer and downloadedUser uploaded file some kind of software. Now, my computer is being redirected to all these kinds of different ad pages and pop-ups. I also have blue underlined text with a green arrow.

I've looked up online how to get rid of it, and I just need a stepUser uploaded file by step guide to know how to fix this.

In this ASC discussion, I made the same suggestion that I've made in this thread. Others suggested "adwaremedic." You'll notice that my comment, and only mine, is flagged as "Recommended." That recommendation came, not from the questioner, but from one of the Community Specialists, who represent Apple Support, as explained here.

Big deal! Other posters have received the same "Apple Recommended" rating for suggesting Adware medic.

You should also be aware that there is no need, and no reason, to use unknown software to remove adware. Apple does not recommend doing so.

That is a false statement, see Thomas' post. Please provide documentation where Apple says that unknown software should not be used to remove adware. Silence on your part indicates that there is none, and you fabricated that claim.

To be sure there may be more than one solution, but should not that be presented as such rather than telling you to use an already proposed alternative.

Do you not preface all your posts about adware with "there is no reason to download anything to solve this problem?" Is that not suggesting that there is only one solution, and the alternative solution supplied is invalid?

Ask someone who thinks you should use the unknown software if he has ever read the source code. If not, then if there are dangers associated with it, he would have no way of knowing

In this country, we have a concept called "innocent until proven guilty." If you cannot find any evidence that there are dangers associated with it, then you should stop telling people to avoid it. By all means, suggest Apple's support article alongside it, but there is no reason to market your advice as the "only" way.

His allusion that Apple support articles have no legitimacy in problem solution is a spurious one. Apple does not now and never had issued a statement that only their support articles are to be used for problem solving, because such a statement would be completely nonsensical.

Ogelthorpe said, flat out, that "this is also the secondary alternative that already has been suggested," so that is more fabrication. Again, Apple has never issued such a statement, but they haven't issued a statement that unknown software should not be used either. Furthermore, he is correct that Apple's support article is not reliable due to the reason mentioned in my response to the OP.

That simply proves our point, that there are multiple good solutions. According to my understanding of the new "Recommended" system, as described to us higher-level members by the hosts of these forums, only one "Recommended" can be assigned per topic. If I were one of the techs assigning "Recommended" status to posts, I would try to spread that around to many different good answers, including some of your own manual removal instructions.

This has absolutely no bearing on whether or not AdwareMedic is also deserving of "Recommended" status, which it has already been proven that at least one of Apple's representatives on these forums believes it is.

Please note that was a absence of my participation in that particular discussion. Though I cannot say with authority, perhaps that 'award' may have not been made had I posted my views. But congratulations are still in order.
