why are my missed calls showing on another iphone

When I receive calls the missed calls show on my wife's iphone. We both use Iphone 5S's and we use the same apple ID for icloud and purchases. But of course the numbers are different. Also the phones are on 2 different phone accounts.

Why are these two phones sharing the call log?

Thanks in advance.

Go into Settings>FaceTime>iPhone Cellular Calls>OFF. You will want to do it on both devices. You can share an Apple ID for purchases, but as KiltedTim points out, t can be difficult sharing the iCloud ID. It takes a lot of maintenance to do that with multiple devices.

Advised or not, I seem to have stopped the call history from being shared on my devices that share the same iCloud. Thanks to those that recommended the work around by removing all other emails except the default email from the settings in iCloud on each device, As well as toggling off cellular data usage for the phone app. I've been sharing AppleID and or iCloud accounts on my many devices for years with never any "security" issues, I don't expect security issues in the future either. Keep in mind I don't use any iCloud features except "find my iPhone" so the work around may not be good for everyone's needs. I'll be glad to update if it ceases to work or anything changes.

Sir,

That may be true, but this feature has only been annoying me and other users since the last update.

No. It has been annoying other users for 2 years who fail to follow Apple's advice to not share iCloud IDs, since iOS 8 implemented iCloud and Continuity support. As you will find out if you read older posts in the forum.

FYI. changing the Facetime it off iphone cellular calls did not work. We have 4 iphones and 3 are having this issue. I have used the same Apple ID for 5+ years and this has never occurred. I want a solution and not spending time setting up everyone with a new apple id. HELP!

Apple explicitly recommends against sharing an ID for iCloud. Stop doing that. You may not like it, but that's the way it is. If you choose to share an ID in that way, then you'll have to lie with the consequences.

I've been experiencing this issue with my 3 phones.. All are MINE but are suited for different purposes (work, personal, and general family usage.. i.e. give it to the kid when he goes out, or have visiting family temporarily use). And now all of a sudden when a call is missed it's showing across my multiple phones. I really don't want to mistakenly call someone from my personal cell phone, to someone who called my work number.

So now it is expected that I take the step of creating individual accounts for individual phones? How about they just don't show a "Missed call" message on a phone number that WASN'T CALLED? Account ID be ******? Or is that making it too hard?! Very annoying.

Apple allows 10 devises on an iCloud account and up until recently that has worked very well. Thank you

Yes, but that's intended for devices with the same owner/user. I have four devices using the same ID but I am one person. Any Apple ID sharing among different individuals is always a mistake and, while it will work on occasion, it will eventually cause problems.

However, do as you wish.

Ok then great.. as I've been using it as "intended" since all phones are mine. So with that out the way what is your method to disable this behavior where a Missed Call shows up on a phone number that wasn't dialed? You still haven't articulated it. Or is it your point that there is none?

What a long and interesting read this list of comments is :-) I think it is important to recognize that users are having issues with this "feature", and not just reply with the "your are not holding it right" type of answer.

My case is similar to MerchantOVenice, I have a private phone and one dedicated to my work (The rest of the family have their own ID's btw). This used to work but after a recent upgrade to iOS 9.2 I started seeing call history being shared between the two phones.

What worked for me was to: reenable call forwarding, disable the listed accounts and then disable call forwarding again.

I hope this trick will work for others as well.

Even though you authoritatively answered your own question, yes I bothered (but I'm not as bothered as you apparently).

The issue is that A) He and his wife are using the same Apple ID (nothing at all wrong with that)

Bearing in mind that iCloud is a single user system, there is a lot wrong with that. Including all the complaint in this thread.

You clearly don't understand Family Sharing. You can have one master account with one credit card. Other iCloud accounts can be set up to share all purchases made on that account, music, video and apps, and, if you enable it, to require authorization from you to make purchases using the master account. If you share an Apple ID you don't have this control. None of the other accounts on a family share program will have a credit card attached. Each can have its own calendar and contacts; you can optionally share one or more calendars and contact groups. Each account has its own free 5 GB, rather than sharing 5GB among multiple users. Your notes will be private. And content stored in iCloud Drive will be private. If you back up your device to iCloud no one else can restore it to their device and have an image of everything on your phone. Family sharing is easier than a shared account, and gives you much more control.
