"Recent calls" list won't clear

So, under iOS 8.3 on an iPhone 6plus, the "recent calls" list has becoming zombie-like; once cleared, it reappears. Often several times a day. And it keeps getting longer, with new calls added to the top. Any way to permanently clear this thing?

  1. From the Home screen, tap Phone.
  2. Tap on Recents.
  3. Then tap Edit.
  4. Tap Clear.
  5. Tap Clear All Recents to confirm. This will remove call history

I've read all of the comments in this blog and it appears that everybody has an iPhone device with this problem. I've experienced the same problem on my iMac and my Macbook Air over the last few years. Can't identify exactly when it started. The iMac now running El Capitan and the Air now running Sierra. I don't now or have ever used iCloud Drive.

Same problem here. "Recent" calls (some from last year...) persistently reappear in call history even though I've deleted the entire history every time this has happened (and it seems to happen almost daily now). Just like NetScore said, powering the phone down does not help and there seems to be no obvious pattern to when the calls reappear. I updated to iOS 8.4 recently and hoped that this would resolve the issue, but apparently it didn't... 😕

Brian, what you said would have worked if this was a bug related to the device you're holding in your hand or it's software installation but this issue has nothing to do with your device. It's most likely an iCloud issue because when you delete recent calls from the device they get deleted on the device... then after a while (usually around midnight) they come back to your device. Deleting iCloud Backup does nothing to resolve this issue either. So they must be stored at some other part of the iCloud that's not accessible to users.

This is a pretty nasty bug that may appear to be gone for a while (as it did for me after I installed iOS 8.4 update) but then it comes back out of the blue and bring back your recent calls from months, sometimes years ago.

As urbncwby76 described, the problem sometimes seemingly goes away but then comes back all of a sudden... and the length of the calls list keeps growing as new calls are made, making it more and more tedious every time to remove the calls one by one (especially since removing them one by one does not seem to solve the problem ultimately). Please, dear Apple tech people, try and figure this out...!
