Has iTunes match gone haywire?

My music artists are all over the place, I noticed it this morning. Just out of blue on all my iOS devices. It makes no difference if the metadata matches for artist, album artist, sort by artist, sort by album artist, ensure compilation is unticked. Many songs are coming up in strange places on the artists view in the iOs devices. Lots of entries under various artists popping up. I have a list of cliff Richard four times under artist as an example - its just crazy. Happened out of nowhere. I only really noticed earlier as back to work started listening to my songs but ic ould of been at the weekend it went all wrong. My iTunes library is perfectly sorted. anyone else seeing strange entries crop up amid their artist list. Could the impending Apple Music be wreaking havoc with match?

Another post basically saying that I, too, have been having this problem since yesterday. It is also affecting Apple TV -- browsing albums on ATV shows the same mess (split albums, wrong artists, etc. etc.) as on my iOS devices. Oddly, some of the album art has been replaced with incorrect artwork even in the iTunes library on my Mac!

At least there have been some amusing combinations on the ATV -- Rolling Stones performing Brahms chamber music, and Adele performing Aqualung, with cover art from an album I don't have ...

I guess I could always delete all the music on my iPhone (about 6100 tracks) and then sync with a wire from my Mac, but that process has never worked flawlessly either.

Just wanted to chime in and tell everyone; yes, I have this problem too.

  • Artists are being divided into several entries.
  • Some solo artists associated with one band are suddenly appearing next to their old band (Mark Knopfler adjacent to Dire Straits etc.).
  • Various artists records also appearing, seemingly, at random next to other artists.
  • Erroneous album art is appearing. For instance, Gimme All Your Lovin' by ZZ Top is clearly from the Eliminator album (and I have this information in my Itunes), but Itunes Match suddenly put some weird collection cover on that tune.

What are you doing, Apple? Fix this!

Been watching this thread after first doing heaps of testing and reporting on macrumors forums.

Have a support chat logged now and am waiting for a response.

AFAIK, this is limited to:

IOS 8.3

(possibly) songs that iTunes Match as being by a different album artist. Or when an album has songs that have an album artist AND another track, no album artist. However I am unable to replicate this manually, so cannot speculate this is an Apple Music preparation issue.

Wondering if we could all be honest to try and figure this out
Ill admit, my library is 99% pirated** , and I have ALOT of duplicate artists compared to my brother who has no issues (all iTunes bought music).

** Obligatory and honest statement .. "I make myself broke going to concerts and buying merch to support the artists I love. Please don't flame me

I could be wrong, but I think Im onto something. I suspect this is an Apple Music prep issue, and is affecting the way Apple is handling our non-tunes sourced content on iOS8.3
